Is it necessary to purchase tickets in advance for NY sightseeing?

I've already purchased tickets to the Empire State Building, but am wondering about the Metropolitan Museum on a Sunday.

We have also decided that the Circle Line boat tour looks like fun. Are advance ticket purchases for a Saturday tour advisable?

Any other tips are welcome. We will be in New York for a long weekend toward the end of May.

Thank you!

No to the Metropolitan Museum because there aren't a limited number of tickets.

You might go ahead and get advance tix for the Circle Line just because there are only so many people who can get on the boat.

If you are going to the Metropolitan Museum on a Sunday, I strongly urge you to go as soon as possible after it opens at 9:30. The facility gets very, very crowded on Sunday afternoons.

You don;t need tickets for the Met - since there is no limit to the # of people they will admit at any one time (the place is ENORMOUS).

But if you go at the busiest time on a Sunday you may have to stand on line for 5 or 10 minutes to buy a ticket - and you may well be squished in the most popular galleries.

Would it be better, do you think, to reverse the itinerary and do the Metropolitan on Saturday and the Circle boat tour on Sunday? Or does it pretty much not matter, since both are weekend days?

Keep an eye on the weather. Go to the museum on the rainy day and take the Circle Line on the sunny day.

Other than that, weekend days are pretty much the same for either.
