info on fare-trackers

I have read about fare trackers, but not how to get one started. I'm looking to find a low cost plane ticket and I feel the prices are too high right now.

Any info on how to start a fare tracker would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Karen

Karen,

Try going to websites such as travelocity.com, orbitz.com,and expedia.com and you can set up a username and password for free and then choose your home airport(s) and your favorite destinations. Whenever you log on to the webpage you will be able to see what fare sales are going on for your destinations. These websites will also email you flight deals on a regular basis. I also wouls suggest going to smarterliving.com Each week they email you the domestic and international last minutes airfare sale prices for flights departing from your city. The individual airlines also have this service as well. Try signing up for aa.com net saver fares.

Susan, let me correct you: if you only want to look up prices you don't need a password. I registered only when I've decided to buy tickets, and only with one website. To see the prices is opened to everybody.

Travelocity sends me lots more fare watcher emails than Orbitz or Expedia. I don't hear from them very often.

Yes Faina, you're right about anyone viewing prices. But you do have to register to get the faretracker notices emailed to you on a regular basis. When I registered at expedia and put in my home city and favorite destinations they started sending me weekly emails with the lowest prices they were offering on those routes at that time. The only downside? I would see good fares available and get REALLY ticked when I couldn't go!

Travelocity is slow getting the emails out when a fare changes. By the time the email arrives, the fare has often changed back.

It works better if you set up the fare tracker, than regularly check their site to see what the fare tracker says.

Keith, I've noticed this too. Very frustrating! I think that the best course of action is, as you said, to check sites frequently instead of waiting for a notice.
