Indy 500
Just returned from a trip to Chicago & Indianapolis. Saw the Cubs win 2 games, then drove down to Indianapolis to see the race & what a race it was - talk about exciting. I think the crew should have let Danica go for it & not slow down to conserve gas & just finish. The name of the game is to win. I could not have selected better games to attend & my 1st Indy 500 was simply dynamite. I received a lot of good info off this website that helped with my itinerary. For Indytravel, you were right on the money about the directions from downtown & the parking at the American Legion parking lot. The trip was easy, quick, & the walk to & from the track was not bad. Thanks to you all. Got to do this again, maybe the F1 races. Thanks.

Funny, I was in both cities too, and got back Monday night! Yes it was fun this year!
Instead of driving, this year I took the IndyGo bus from downtown (Market & Illinois) to the track. It got me there and back within 25 minutes each way. No traffic, no hassles.
Something to remember for next year.

Shea, wasn't Danica really low on fuel and she couldn't "let it go" because she would have run out before the end of the race. As I read it, she barely made it to the end in any case. They couldn't bring her in to refuel because everyone else had already done that and she'd be behind. They may want to re-think their race strategy, but she drove very well despite some rookie mistakes and it would have been great if she'd won.

Barbara - You're right, she was low on fuel and couldn't have made it if she had been wide open. The reson she was up front is because she didn't stop for fuel when others did. It was a great strategy and gave her an opportunity to win. She got 4th place. I've read where she actually ran out of gas just before the finish line.

You're welcome Shea. I'm glad you had a great time. I'm sure I walked near you as I did the exact same trek in & out of the race.
I'm saddened by how low the crowds were this year. I've NEVER seen stands that empty. And such an excellent race and weather to boot. If the IRL isn't careful everyone will be able to park in the infield for the race in a few years.

Great weekend, Shea! I saw Danica on CNN Monday morning--she ran out of fuel on the last lap so there's no way she could have openend that car up any more than she did...as much as I would have loved for her to, also. Such an exciting race--would have LOVED to been there in person. It was far better than the NASCAR race that ran later that night and was laden with commercials.
