Incredible deal to Hawaii :)
Wow -- I just scored roundtrip tickets from Atlanta to Honolulu for $276.40 each (including all taxes, fees, etc.)!!!!! No blackouts, available until May 22, 2010. on United Airlines.
I got an email about this deal and immediately got on the computer. At the time, there were lots of dates available at this price. I called my husband, and we found some dates in May that we could travel, and we went ahead and purchased the tickets!! Total for the two of us: $552.80
Now it's time to research and to decide what island/s to visit. This will be our 5th trip to Hawaii, and our favorites right now are Kauai and the Big Island, but I'll be looking for deals at all the islands. We might stay 2/3 nights on Oahu and 5/6 nights on another island (total of 8 nights).
We've never been to Hawaii in May -- any suggestions on best islands/best areas?
Thanks!

Samsaf: Wow. That's a terrific price. I've been checking my email constantly since I read this. So far, I've only received an email from United for a buy one ticket, get a second free to anywhere in Canada. If I get the email about the Honolulu deal, I'm going to pounce on it.

This was an email from clarkhoward.com. Clark Howard has a show (originating in Atlanta area but, I think, can be heard in lots of areas around the U.S.)about financial info/advice, and he also gives good travel deals. (He used to own a travel agency.) You can go to the website and sign up for his emails. When I got the email, I just went on united.com to get that price.

Geez, I thought my $476 from Newark was good! We are going to Kauai in August & we got an oceanfront room for $99/night! Whichever island you decide on, you might want to check out vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner). Try going to HawaiiGaga.com, too. They have a questionairre to help you decide which island is right for you. And my favorite planning site (other than Fodor's, of course) is TripAdvisor.com. Lots of good planning info. Good luck & congrats!!!!

Stay away from Turtle Bay Resort. We have stayed there. We have been burglarized and a woman was attacked and violated there the same night. Hotel told us that "...Turtle Bay Resort cannot and will not guarantee security to its guests..." Quite a statement. Be save. Do not stay at Turtle Bay Resort.

Those who watched and helped me agonize over whether to go to Maui in addition to my beloved Kauai will appreciate this.
I went to the Gaga site and learned that my top choice should be (drum roll, please ....) MAUI. (Kauai was a close second!)

The gaga quiz link is fun, but I wouldn't base my trip on the results of the quiz. Call me old fashioned and a putz, but I still like to read guide books to get a feel for a place and make decisions based on information I find.
