In Arkansas--Hot Springs or Eureka Springs????
Have choice of spending 4 days in Hot Springs or Eureka Springs.
What would you choose???
I am the 'typical tourist"and love to walk, not into nightlife and can't afford "resorts and expensive spas.
Any opinions? suggestions???

We enjoyed both for 2 full days each. My favorite of the two is Eureka Springs. Charming little town. The Basin Park Hotel (a historic hotel) is offering what they call a Historic Package. It includes 2 nights, 2 breakfasts, dinner and a van tour of Eureka Springs for $279.00 weekdays. You can check it out at http://www.basinpark.com/packages.htm
If you like Italian, DeVitos is great! A small Italian restaurant (probably no more than 8 tables. We had massages at both Hot Springs and Eureka Springs and felt Hot Springs was better. Have fun!

The weather should probably play a part in which town you choose. Summer in Hot Springs is REALLY hot; summer in Eureka Springs is much milder. In the winter, Eureka Springs pretty much shuts down. Eureka Springs is a much more charming place, but there are more tourist-type activities in Hot Springs. Walking for pleasure would be more fun in Eureka Springs.

I like E.S. better than H.S. but if you like horse racing, they do that in H.S. certain times of the year.
If you are of the Christian persuasion, they have a fabulous outdoor drama outside of E.S. called The Passion Play depicting Christ's last days on earth.

I can't weigh in on Eureka Springs, but just drove down to Hot Springs (from Little Rock) yesterday and had a hot springs bath/massage at the Buckstaff. The treatment was GREAT! It's only $38.25 for an hour and a half bath/massage, which is really reasonable. However--word of warning--this is not for the extremely modest! 
As for Hot Springs itself, it's very touristy--lots of little shops line the opposite side of the "Bathouse Row." There is a nice promenade that is nice for walking.

Haven't been to Hot Springs, but just returned from 3 days/2 nights Eureka Springs stay at the Angel at Rose Hall in the Angel room. Built in 1999 as a B&B in the Victorian style. Humongous room with Jacuzzi and separate shower. Porch with swing. Very quite since it is away from downtown, but just a short easy walk away. Superb full breakfast. Sandy is a great innkeeper. Highly recommended. If you stay in this room, look up when laying in bed after turning off the lights. Surprise!

I'll agree that the $38 bath and massage deal at the Buckstaff is great! My family has a vacation property up there, and we ALL must go to the Buckstaff whenever we're in town! There's a good reason this place has been operating for over 100 years!
The downtown of Hot Springs is great for walking and shopping. There are lots of cute coffehouses, cafes, and gift shops. We always have a good time there.
