We've used them for the major cities in the USA and they were invaulable in Europe for Paris, London, Rome and Venice, especially when we were planning the trip.
They are also waterproof so we've used them when we've been caught in the rain and to sit on the grass at parks.
Barnes/Nob, Tower, Borders, et al usually have them.
I picked up the New Orleans map at the New Orleans airport's newstand.
