I'm getting it in the neck for picking September

Hi, I am bringing my 10yr old CP son for DHT in the Keys. I am coming over to Key largo next month but the weather forecasts predicts a little sun and thunder storms. My better half reckons it is more likely to be a washout, raining for most of a day preventing us from taking part in the activities on offer and our son will miss out on the DHT. Have I made a mistake in picking September.

Providing there are no hurricanes, and I wouldn't even worry about that, you'll have plenty of sun and late afternoon thunderstorms. Those are constants in FL in the summer, but so is the sun. Dont' worry.

Hope your DH is normally a more optimistic soul than that, and doesn't hold you accountable for vacation weather!!

Angela- you should check ASAP if the FAA will be monitoring your 737 for BO. Often some MR PE AA will have BUM shirts and they will be PU. You do not want your son to be on UAL or AA if this is the case.
PS DHT is AWOL and 86d

I'm pretty sure that Angela was referring to her son having cerebral palsy, and the program is some sort of swimming with dolphins therapy. Angela, is DHT Dolphin/Human Therapy? I'm just guessing, but I think I've heard of this before.

Boy am I confused. You are coming next month and already have a weather forecast? I am sure that all that is available is monthly average highs/lows and precipitation. I can't imagine any month in the keys with "little sun". Thunderstorms (short of a hurricane) are normally afternoon events and really don't ruin a vacation. Hope this helps!

Kim, seven day forecast would be September. Can't believe only a few days of August left. Where has the time gone?

Angela - Please pardon Alpha...he/she has a bad case of "Shecky Fodors Syndrome"(SFS). SFS has been spreading throughout the fodors travel site. Symptoms include excessive bad taste and unknowingly mocking ill children.

The weather forcast predicted rain/thunderstorms for my trip to the Keys during August (2 weeks ago)too; however, it was sunny and warm all week. There was maybe a 1/2 hour sun shower on one day but thats it. Don't worry. Have a great time. Wish i was going!!

I live in FL, have only had 1 true week of rain all summer...they ALWAYS call for rain each day. usually it's a 1 hr shower at dinner time. If you have things you MUST fit in and your worried about weather - try for late morning early afternoon to be safe. It's like forecasters in the north always calling for snow in the winter, the weather should be fine.

The only rain the keys get is maybe a brief afternoon shower. Dont let any rain predictions alter your plans.

Actually, I was knowingly teasing an adult who chose to use obscure initials for what may be medical conditions on a travel forum.

Hey Largo Lover- I live in Key Largo and last Sunday it started to rain around 1 pm and stopped around 8:30 pm. Not my idea of a brief afternoon rain shower.
To Angela: if DHT does mean dolphin-human therapy, you were right to use initials. If you had spelled it out the dolphin-huggers would have come out og the woodwork telling you how cruel and inhumane it is to cage up dolphins.
But enough negativity- the weather really should be ok, and I hope your son benefits from the DHT.

Hi, thanks everyone, Yes, DHT is dolphin human therapy and cp is cerebral palsy. You will have to forgive us, it will be our first trip over there and over here we don't half get some horror stories about the storms over there. I have stopped getting it in the neck now, my better half is now fine about the weather not ruining the therapy. It was worrying to see all the clouds and t/storms on the internet forecast so!!! we will see Florida soon.

Ouch! Sounds as if *you* are the better half, not him, Angela! Hope your trip is wonderful.
