Illinois to Wisconsin

Several teachers are planning a journey from Springfield Illinois to Milwaukee Wisconson to a convention. We are taking HWY 39 through ILL and 43 to Milwaukee. Does anyone know of any interesting sights along the way or neat places to eat?

About a 20 minute or so, ride northwest of Milwaukee (near Hubertus) is a restaurant called Fox and Hounds. A very pretty drive. The restaurant has a number of dining rooms, some with fireplaces and abounds with ambience; kind of a mix between country and olde english.

Not to far from Fox & Hounds is Holy Hill. It's a beautiful catholic church one will appreciate whether catholic or not. You can climb it's bell towers and see the countryside - beautiful!

I'd recommend Milwaukee Ale House once you reach Milwaukee. It is on Water Street. There are also quite a few nice restaurants all along Water Street.
Also check out jsonline.com for what is going on in town when you are there. Have a nice visit!

Once in Milwaukee you have to go to a place called the Safehouse. It is a James Bond themed restaurant. From the front it looks like a furniture store but inside it is a restaurant. You walk into the front door and you have to say the password and then move the lever and the walls move. It is located on Front Street. Get it Front street. Locals up there know it very well.

All visitors should make it to The Safehouse. A lot of fun. If you go in the evening you'll need to know the password. If you don't, everyone in the restaurant will watch you on a closed circuit monitor as you'll have to perform a silly stunt. Not to be missed!
