Why do hotel rooms in NYC cost more on weekdays?

Hi,Can anybody please tell me why hotel rooms in New York City cost more on weekdays? Is it because the business people are there at that time? My friends think the weekdays would be less crowded? Thanks!

Your original assumption is correct. Most of them cater to business travelers.

Debbie - Weekday rates are higher in almost EVERY big city. Whether it be London, NYC, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, etc. Business travelers pay full price (usually) and do not travel on weekend so many big city hotels are about empty Friday and Saturday nights. It is only resort areas where weekends are higher.

Tom and NYC,Thanks for your responses.Does this make the city more busy on weekdays? Or Weekends?
Sorry if this question sounds ridiculous but I've only been once on Friday to Sunday and it seemed extremely busy!

Lots of luck to anyone who can figure out when midtown Manhattan isn't busy. I've never really been able to see a whole lot of difference on weekdays and weekends, except that you can be pretty sure (but not always) that the streets and sidewalks will be a little quieter at 7 to 9 AM on Saturdays and Sundays.

Hi Patrick,We left our hotel around 6am Sunday to head for the bus depot and your right,it seems somewhat deserted and quiet! The taxi zoomed right through the middle of Time Square and got us there in no time.
We arrived on a Friday at 12noon and it was bumper to bumper, and move a few feet all the way to the hotel!!
The taxi ride was also more expensive because of all the stop and go's! We had a great time and can't wait for our next trip back!!

For those who haven't experienced it, I recommend getting up early and walking around the city in the early-morning (i.e., 6-8 a.m.) hours on the weekend. It's great having the city to yourself!

Howard,
I got up around 6:00 and walked around downtown Chicago. You are right - this is a great time to walk around. Although I like Chicago at any time, there was a real beauty to the almost deserted early morning streets.
