If we love Paia, Maui, where should we stay on the Big Island?

We also love the hippie/organic/slightly shabby etc etc locations. We visit the BI at least once a year and usually split our time between Kapoho on the east and south Kona around Kealekakua Bay on the west.
Check the following websites for Kapoho houses--www.apoparadise.com and www.hpvacationrentals.com. Swimming and snorkeling in tide pools is right there. Pahoa is 10 miles away and is a kick--has a natural market and great Sunday farmer's etc market, Paolo's Bistro (a Florentine chef relocated to Puna, go figure)small menu, good Italian food, byob. About 45 minutes to Volcano.
South Kona--is more an area than a town--but has the same vibe. These websites have some cottages you might like.http://www.alternative-hawaii.com/accom/bivkons.htm
http://www.renthawaiihome.com/
We usually rent a friend's ocean- front house in the little local village of Ke'ei (at the south end of Kealekakua Bay. It's quite rustic but we love it and its location.

Thanks GP, bon voyage and martym-
Pahoa/Kapoho area looks perfect for us! I think that will definitely be our base for one week.
Especially thanks to martym for the links to great rental sites. I am salivating over all those vacation houses with the private warm lagoons. Wow!
One of the guest books for the vacation rentals mentioned getting fresh ahi from the Pahoa fish market and eating it on the lanai...exactly what we are looking for!
Again, thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I feel so much more knowledgeable about the areas we will want to visit. I love Fodors because you get the real deal descriptions to help you make good choices, not the lyrical, 100% "paradise" descriptions that are actually pretty generic from other websites.
