If not Sanibel where?

Ok, I literally just booked flights to Ft. Myers for my family in late June for a week. Then I noticed about this Red Tide stuff...where else can I go that may not be as affected by this yet still fly into Ft. Myers? I will be traveling with my husband, son (3) and my over 65 parents. Sanibel seemed like such an easy place...beach, restaurants, relaxing. Like the gulf because of the ocean its nice and calm for my son...I remember red tide being at the gulf once during it but never paid much attention to it. Open to suggestions...by the way, we were going to rent a house/condo on the beach so we would want to be able to have the same lodging options available.
Thanks so much in advance for any suggestions.

There is an earlier post that states Sanibel Island has cleaned up the beach areas. I believe by late June you would never have known it had happened. Do a search for Sanibel Island Florida to see the post

liasun, I am thinking the same thing. It is red algae and not red tide. I've been following the red algae situation in Fort Myers Beach and although the town is able to now rake the beaches, I'm not sure that they will. The town's web site has a posting about it. I initially felt positive, but you read it and see what you think. http://www.fortmyersbeachfl.gov/

I filed a Public Works "request for action" on the web site.

I was reading your post, and absent-mindedly forgot the title and that you were talking about Sanibel. I have reservations in Fort Myers Beach, but I also read that Sanibel is raking their beaches.

You may also want to contact the airline and see if you can cancel. Sometimes they will allow you to cancel within 24 hours of booking without a fee.

Unfortunately, I cannot cancel. I could use the flights towards somewhere else but I really wanted the gulf. I sound like a baby right? My husband is not joining us and just says to go. And if they are raking the beach maybe that will help.
I dont mind the sea grass stuff...I am used to that....a few islands in the caribbean have the same thing but like dead fish? Gross.
By the way...any suggestions for a condo village/resort? I have not made any final plans yet aside from the plane tickets!
thanks for all the suggestions and advice.
