not sure how to get a good deal, but just wanted to offer my opinion about the four seasons, maui -- we stayed there for our honeymoon and had THE best vacation - it was truly the trip of a lifetime and I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. our room did not have a water view, however, that did not at all affect our time there at the hotel.
upon checking out of the four seasons, we stayed at the manele bay on lanai. in contrast to the wonderful time we enjoyed on maui, this was one of our worst hotel experiences EVER!!! we would never recommend anyone to stay there. Here is a short description of what went wrong: used feminine hygiene device in trash barrel of room upon check in, cockroach in room, torn sheets on bed, public bathroom off of lobby smelled horribly of urine, terrible service at lounge, poolside area in need of updates (rust on pool deck from lack of moving and cleaning chaise lounges, etc). all in all so terrible that we checked out early and went back to the four seasons hotel.
we were only in our room at the 4S for five minutes when there was a knock on the door: we were presented with a beautiful and delicious chocolate cake from the manager of the hotel with a hand written note welcoming and thanking us for coming back. WOW - what an experience.
best wishes for your vacation.

I agree with the costco.com. I have spent too many hours to count surfing the web and found the best rate on the Hyatt in Kauai through Costco. It's going to come out to about 289.00 a night as opposed to the typical 340.00. Still expensive, but a savings! Check it out. We got a free daily breakfast as well which is normally 25.00 per day. Good luck.

We just got back from staying in Kauai at the Princeville Resort & the Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island for our 25th Anniversary(We also stayed in Maui). The Princeville was top-notch! (It is the reason we will return to Hawaii)We weren't as impressed with the Orchid.A little run down & lots of children. We probably got spoiled by the Princeville) We did get a fabulous deal booking with Liberty Travel. They saved us thousands of dollars & rental car & breakfast for 2 daily were other perks of the package. It depends on the promotions( we got 2004 rates for booking early for 2005 trip)They are very helpful. We also had free nights added when staying at 2 starwood resorts. So, you may want to check them out. Good luck & best wishes.

A few years back, we had initially thought to book a Big Island vacation through Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays, and the price was plenty high. However, later in the day the travel agent called us back to state they needed another $ 200 apiece to cover the rising airfares, although there was news all over that the air fares were dropping everywhere.
We felt this was dishonoring our agreed on price so my spouse called the airline, hotel and rental car companies that would be used by Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays, and got the same features for about 30% less than the "package" price. It took him about 30 minutes to do this and we saved thousands! Since then, he refuses to use travel agents and travel companies. We've travelled all over the world without a hitch by making our own arrangements.
As for the Four Seasons, the Ritz Carltons and other hotels in that category (a step or two above Starwood,) the demand for their properties is very high, since the rich do not experience recessions, and therefore the prices aren't out there on Priceline, hotels.com, etc. We find we get the best deals by calling the hotels directly. We have also had luck asking for complimentary upgrades when checking in. All they can do is say "no."

elieli,
You have posted four times in the last week and each time you promote oluina. Your posts sound a lot like advertisements to me. Have you stayed there or do you just own it? Just curious...

I don't know if anyone has any experience with tripreservations.com but I ran across this website the other day. They offer the Four Seasons on the Big Island as one of the properties that they have discounts for. I checked a few dates and the rates are somewhat confusing. They offer a category called a deluxe room that is not listed on the Four Seasons website. This category is listed in addition to Golf View rooms and Ocean View rooms. This room rate on their website seems to be cheaper than the golf room rate they quote which is the cheapest room rate I've found for the Four Seasons.
The rates for the deluxe room seem to be very reasonable if you are booking a week or two in advance, but don't seem to be a very good deal if you are booking way ahead. Rates in September for the deluxe room were about $566/night. If this is not a golf view room, I think the Four Seasons lists it at $700/night.
