ideas for a week in ny

In August, my family and I will be in Philadelphia and NYC on consecutive weekends. We have a free week to spend in between these times. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to stay? Thanks!

wjinmd, where are you from, and what do you like to do?

Somewhere along the Jersey Shore seems like a natural thought for a week in August between Philly & NYC, although many rentals are booked well in advance (like January) so availability may be limited now.

We live in MD, right outside of DC, and we like beaches, cities, and mountains.

Word of warning - do not plan to come to NYC the week before Labor Day, because the Republic National Convention will be held here and it'll be an absolute zoo.

If you take the NorthEast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike out of Philadelphia you will be in the Poconos in 2 hours. From there it's only 1 1/2 to 2 hours to NYC on Interstate 80. Happy travels. Peace.
