NYC again - another great week in the city
So happy to be back in my favorite city! Can't believe how fast time flies and how little time there is left but enjoying every minute.
Right now I'm settled in the apartment, waiting for a friend (fomer co-worker) to arrive - bringing a home cooked Italian meal for lunch. Last night was an absolutely amazing four course dinner at Colicchio & Sons, talking about past and future trips to Italy. It's been a great visit so far!
I think I'll write this trip organized in categories, rather than days. Hopefully there will be something helpful for those planning return visits to the city. This is definitely not a See the Main Sites kind of week. Well, other than shows

She saw the matinee of Kinky Boots today, while I saw Vanya, etc. again, this time with the much funnier Julie White as Masha. And this was right after we had lunch together at Room Service, Thai on Ninth.
Howard, not sure about Buyer and Cellar, but she's seeing your second favorite show tonight. LOL.

Neo, Sounds like fun. I had to cancel my trip earlier this month. Recall I had tix to see Kinky Boots again, and Trip to Bountiful, and the Nance and many other plans. My travel companion, a friend of 39 yrs. who lives in TX, decided to have a full face lift a wk before our trip without telling me, somehow thinking she would be able to still go to NYC. Yeah, right. And she didnt tell me until the night before I was to leave for NYC, whilw I was packing. It was quite surreal and unbelievable, but it's true. I still have not forgiven her. Thank goodnes for Stubhub.

Hi Neo, not a problem. Really enjoyed our lunch. Of course, Thai is my favorite and Room Service is just lovely. That's also a way to get in trouble I suppose = I had Room Service Thai with Neo this afternoon.
It's kind of funny that you discovered it when you were living at World Wide Plaza for the month and that's the first apartment I hung out in for years. We probably crossed each other the sidewalk and never knew it. Loved the food and the conversation. I'm psyched about a trip to Italy next fall and it's great to gather info from fellow Fodorites.
LOVED Kinky Boots. LOVED it. This will be on my short list of favorite musicals ever. I'm going back to read the posts in Broadway Banter but I'm telling ya right now - Billy Porter was AMAZING!
Afterwards I hopped on the subway down to the Flatiron to visit my favorite store ever. http://www.fishseddy.com/
I didn't spend much money but I definitely could have. I planned to eat at Eataly on the way back an imaginary trip to Paris beaconed. I stopped in at Maison Kayser and it was delightful.

I had the CRABE & GUACAMOLE and FIGUES & JAMBON DE BAYONNE.

The figs were divine.
Back on the subway to the theater district to see my favorite musical. Yes, HowardR....Wicked. I've not seen it on my past three visits so checked to see if I could find ANY kind of deal on seats. I found a ticket for less than $100, partial view, which also meant it was front row far side. I was in heaven. In the clouds (fog) so to speak. I wouldn't sit there for my first time seeing it but loved being that close this time. The music has been the soundtrack to my life for the past several years and I still love it.
I walked a half block and hailed a cab and am back "home". This was the best day of the trip so far and pretty much a perfect Starrs kind of day in NYC.
HowardR, B&C is sold out for the only other day I'm in town. I really wanted to see it based on recommendations. I tried to get tickets but missed the opportunity. I'm kind of winging it on this trip because I'm also working while I'm here. It's cut into my "fun" time but I'm so grateful to have the chance to telecommute from NYC so I have NO complaints. Next trip. I'm hoping that may be in April.

Hi cpg! Didn't see your post earlier. Actually, this morning was "Atlanta weather". It's rained almost every day this summer in Atlanta. We reached our annual rainfall numbers last month. The weather in NYC has been wonderful - and like usual summer days down south. Of course, there's finally sunshine today back home.
Ready to head out in a little bit. Hope I won't need an umbrella.

I know, Neo. It's the perfect setup
I'll write the trip report when I get home. It's been a fabulous trip. I'm at the airport The car service was on time, and the ride plus security took less than an hour. Hanging out here for a while and then heading home.
HowardR, I hope to see it next time. Everyone at the dinner party on Saturday wanted to see it so I'll buy tix as soon as I know I am returning. I had to wait until by NJ friend decided which day she was coming so the actual planning of days and fitting things in happened at the last minute. It all worked out beautifully - except for that show.
I'll be back
