I80 or I86/NY 17? Cleveland to New Haven

Need advice. Traveling from Cleveland, Ohio to New Haven, CT on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Should I take I80 through PA or I 86/NY 17 through NY? 86 is more miles, but I'm concerned about traffic around NYC during afternoon. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I would take I-80 to I-287 and not go through NYC. An alternate is to go I-80 to I-84 via Danbury.

Take 80 to 287 across the Tappan Zee. Avoid the city.

If I took 80 to 84, where would I cut up north? 81, 476, or 380?

I also heard I should avoid i95 so I like the idea of going through Danbury.

Thanks for your input!
