I need a new hair stylist in NYC

I'm happy with my colorist but am once again searching for a good, affordable stylist. I'd prefer midtown or upper east because of location of colorist, but would consider another area for someone really good. Looking for someone who can do good styling and blowdry for medium length hair and want to pay ~ $100 for cut and blowdry. I know that eliminates a lot of the big name salons so what I'm looking for is a particular stylist reco more than just a salon reco. I used to find great people like the personal asst. to a big name etc. or people just starting out and very talented. If you don't want to post in public here, I'll provide an email if you ask.

I use Guiseppi at Avanzi. (He's a part owner.) They're on Third near 60th (upstairs). I beleive he'll be in your price range (I pay more since he does my color too). Have been going there for years and he's good about understanding what you want versus the latest or what he wants.

The number is 212 223-1830.

Great location for me. Thanks. Do you like anyone else there?

travel?

mclaurie can take either the 4/5/6 trains or the N/R/W trains to get to Third near 60th.

MikeT.. many women get their hair done while on vacation and some people are interested in hair stylist recommendations in nyc.
Why did you open this thread?

I only use Guiseppi. His brother is another partner and I know a lot of people like him as well. Then there is a changing cast of other stylists that I've never tried.

"Why did you open this thread?'

Why are you talking about hairstylists in a travel thread when not travel is actually involved?

"not travel is actually involved" is also not English. And many women coming to NYC look for places to have their hair done. If this concerns you so much - just ignore it.

Some of us really like the recommendations we get on Fodors so asking for a "different but important" recommendation is not outlandish.

Of course, there's a forum for that. It's called "Fodorite Lounge." Travel forums are for, well, travel. If you want advice on the best updo on your block, the lounge seems like a better place so that the TRAVEL discussion isn't littered with coffee talk.

Seeking services of any kind that someone who is traveling might need/want in a particular locale can definitely be posted on the travel part of this board. For example, what does buying scarves or macaroons in Paris have to do with travel if we are going to enforce the MikeT standard?

I could see how this could be posted in the Lounge as well, but some who would know NYC might not participate in the Lounge. Therefore, IMO, (if anyone cares! ) this post is fine where it is.

Using this illogic, the travel threads would be taken over by "I need a new dry cleaner in Miami," "I need a new Starbucks in Chicago" and "I need a new manicurist in Vegas" threads, with no room for actual, travel-related conversation.

The Lounge exists for exactly these kinds of non-travel related chatter. Travel-related doesn't mean "I have a need in my neighborhood"

Mike, if you have a problem with this post, contact the editors. I'm guessing, however, that they will agree with the many posters who have pointed out that many people like to have recommendations for these types of services when they travel to NYC.
