Well, I had a nice FLL visit the previous weekend. Drove to north end of the Birch Rd strip of budget beach hotels and La Lorraine had no studios left, but would give me an apt for the same price (only $33!).
Was kind of a long walk to nearest waterbus stop (Seville st), but bought the all day pass (only $5!) and boated downtown with the full monologue about the jaw-dropping mansions along the way. So many yuppie restaurants, but stopped in Argies(?) for fantastic cheap empanadas and about the freshest, best value smoothies sold anywhere.
Walked a few miles back along the waterfront, the yuppie main drag, the ritzy marina area, across the bridge, along the surprisingly uncomercialized beach, and back to hotel. Body surfed. In evening toured the whole waterbus network and worked in nice film festival.
Saturday, took the waterbus excursion to Miami south beach (only $25 including Miami bus pass)!). Saw and heard about endless more mansions and puttered slowly under a zillion bridges. Haven't been to Miami Beach since it became trendy, but it seemed the same cheesy dump now overrun with homeless, with the few bright spots hardly compensating.
Now I wonder if FL east beach strip has some inbetween place with activities but not the sleaze of Miami, with classiness but not quite as sterile as FLL.
