I-40 in North Carolina

I am heading back to smokies in July and was wondering if anyone knows if I-40 near TN/NC border is still 2 lanes or has it been fixed.

Sounds like it's still under repair, but should be finished sometime around your planned trip: http://apps.dot.state.nc.us/tims/Inc....aspx?id=14593 . I'll also try to get an update from my brother-in-law, who's an NC Highway Patrol officer in Haywood County.

I drove the route 2 weeks ago, and there were delays. Traffic was backed up both ways. So I concluded that the repairs are still a work in progress.

I hope the previus poster can get the update in time to help you plan.

It's kind of sad. About a month ago they had a report that the repair/reconstruction from the flooding was finally over and they were going to reopen both lanes and then within about 1 week they found some major cracking....Haven't driven that far out in a while so am just relying on the highway electronic bulletin boards which report it as still under construction.
