Hyatt or Mariott on Kauai?

In August we are going to Kauai and Maui for our anniversary. In Maui we will be staying at the Grand Wailea where we had our honeymoon. We've not been to Kauai and both the Hyatt and Mariott sound nice- if anyone has been to either, I'd love to know what you think. Thank you.

I am not aware that there is a Hyatt on Kauai. We own a timeshare at the Marriott. Half is hotel and half timeshare. It is a beautiful hotel. I would really recommend it. You may be thinking of the Sheraton Princeville Hotel. It is on the north side of the island. It is also a very beautiful hotel. It is more rainy on that side of the island, but it is also more lush. The Marriott is on the East side in Lihue. It will probably be more sunny there. It is on a beautiful beach, and the swimming pool is awesome. The grounds are beautifully landscaped.

I guess I just had a "senior moment". Of course, there is a Hyatt on Kauai. I just totally blanked. Anyway, the Hyatt is lovely. It is on the south shore, which has the most sun. I think you would be happy at either the Marriott or the Hyatt. The Hyatt's beach is not very swimable, but they have a great pool area.

Can't comment on the mariott, but we stayed at the hyatt 2 years ago..It was GREAT!!..As stated above
the beach is not too good for swimming, however great for boggie boarding. They have a river pool
with grottos for, hmmmmmm well you know..Its on the sunny side of island, so weather was perfect.
Golf course right next door,,Tennis, spa..
The grounds are spectacular..Hotel itself very airy..Walking thru the hallways to your room there is a constant breeze blowing thru them..

I know people who think that the Kauai Hyatt is the best hotel in ALL of Hawaii. They say it is the essence of what Hawaii is all about. Have fun!

Sheraton Princeville is one of the most romantic, serene, peaceful places I've been to. It is definitely in my top 3 in Hawaii. I think that both the Hyatt and Marriott are a little Disneylandish & kind of gimmicky. If you are okay with lots of people around, and don't mind a hotel that is like lots of others then I'd go to either of the two mentioned. If you are looking for a unique Hawaiian experience, go to Princeville. It is what you think Hawaii should be. Have fun! Aloha!

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt on Kauai, and loved it. I think it is less "Disney-esque" than the Marriott and similar hotels in the islands. It is a big hotel, but the grounds are gorgeous, the spa is wonderful, and the weather terrific (on the south, dry side of the island.) Ask for a room away from the pool area, though; they told us they would put us where they like to put couples as opposed to families, and we had a beautiful ocean view in a quiet part ofthe hotel. Rooms right off the pool areas would be less romantic and louder than where we stayed. By the way, the Princeville is a terrific hotel, too. Calmer and more sedate, yet luxurious. We had lunch there and hung out on their beach one day. If you don't stay there definitely check out their awesome view when visiting the north shore. Have fun!

We're also planning a trip to Kaua'i this fall, and have booked 5 nights at the Hyatt. I know many employees at the Hyatt, and they tell me that they feel this is their most beautiful property! We are so excited to see it. Also, as you are planning, I have come across a very user-friendly travel book: The Ultimate Kaua'i Guidebook, Wizard Publications, by Andrew Doughty & Harriett Friedman. I'm feeling very prepared to have a Grand Vacation! Have a wonderful time! We'll be celebrating our 18th anniversary there!
