H'wood, Beverly Hills, ....etc

Hi, Want to know how best to spend a day visiting Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Strip, Sunset Boulevard, Rodeo drive, Beverly Hills, Bel Air & Hollywood.
Want to spend a day driving/walking along these known streets/places. Whats the best way to do so.....like where to park? which parts to go on foot? I have taken the guided tour of stars homes, which comes alongwith the tour to Universal.
I have also read about Horseriding at Sunset ranch? Whats that? I have 2 days in LA...spending one at Universal and one for the above touring. Not much into Disney nor beaches, as I am from Jersey. Visiting LA end of year. Thnx a ton.

While driving around Beverly Hills, Hollywood, etc. stop for lunch at the Farmer's Market on Fairfax. It's an LA landmark and a fun place to have a meal.

One tip about Hollywood Blvd: Go during the day. It's kind of a sleazy spot and becomes worse at night. If you hand around the Chinese Theater, someone will probably offer you free tickets to the taping of a game show, if you're interested.

James,
Hollywood Blvd has more or less cleaned-up it's act. In fact, with the LION KING at the Pantages, the new Hollywood/Highland mall, the Kodak theatre, Roosevelt Hotel, you'd be fine any time. Depending on where you are staying you can take the metro right to Hollywood and walk the area around the Chinese theatre, see the footprints, wander into the lobby of the Roosevelt ( Mission revival architecture--plenty of movie history). I think there's a bus tour right near the Chinese theatre. I took it years ago and enjoyed it.

Beverly Hills has plenty of public parking, making walking Rodeo easy. Sunset Plaza,on Sunset Boulevard, is a very lovely section and has parking behind the shops on both sides of the street. It's a good people watching block, outdoor cafes are plentiful. You'd have to drive around Bel Air-just enter the gates off Sunset near Beverly Glen. The Bel-Air hotel is well worth a stroll. Check-out the swans.

Enjoy,
Michele

I would skip Farmers Market if you only have two days. There are parking lots by the Chinese Theatre for Hollywood Blvd. Sunset strip has restricted parking on side streets, so be careful. Oddly, parking is better in Bev. Hills, there are many parking lots sprinkled about the streets. There is a heavy parking fine for lasped meters, so a lot would be better. Drive around Bel Air and Hollywood.
I would do Hollywood Blvd. during the day, and like the poster above said get some tickets to a TV taping if offered.
There is not much else to Hollywood except the area around the Chinese theatre to visit on a one day stop.
Then I would drive around Bel Air, not much else to do except have a drink or dine at Bel Air Hotel and look at gated entry ways to lovely homes, on the way to Beverly Hills for the evening. Dress up. In Bev. Hills, there are many nice and not too expensive restaurants, and great window shopping, and in-store shopping too. Dress the part, and you will be treated better by any snooty salespeople.
The horseback riding at Sunset Ranch is fun and a little different, good views, etc. You go by the Hollywood sign. But it depends on if you want to take the time away from the cities.

To skip the Farmer's Market for a taping of a show would just be a shame. But then, I am not a fan of Universal Studios. The Farmer's Market, the Getty Center, the Art Deco walking tour are some of the favorites among all of my out of town visitors.

Hi There, http://www.sunsetranchhollywood.com/
There is info on the Sunset Ranch.

Welcome To LA.
There is a ton of Parking at the new Hollywood Highland center. $10.00 I believe, all day, maximum.
From there you can get to the Metro, the Mall Grauman's, Hollywood Wax Museum, Musso and Franks, Pig N' Whistle, Micheli's, Hollywood Entertainment Museum, Kodak Theatre, Hollywood Roosevelt, Galaxy Theatres, Pantages, Hollywood Bowl, Magic Castle and Runyon canyon hiking trails.
Welcome to my neighborhood!

I am not a fan of Farmer's Market, but the other's suggestions sound right on.
I am also not a fan of Universal Studios, but many people are. The Art Deco tour and Getty Museum are all nice too. It all depends on your interests.

Actually Sunset Blvd. physically goes from the far east of Los Angeles, near the foothills of Hollywood to the Pacific Ocean.
The "Strip" begins at about Fairfax in West Hollywood and continues until Beverly Hills, about 4 Miles or so.

The strip is hot again no question abou it, don't even try to drive down there betweeen midnight and 2:30 AM on a Friday or Saturday, it's stopped up solid.
The Sunset strip is filled with trendy TRENDY clubs and lots of young and lovely people trying to see and be seen, (ie to pick up on each other), if that sounds like your scene then go for it, certainly it's not sleazy at all, like it was back in the '70's.. super-high end upscale... but oh so very trendy!
Highlights are:
The famous SkyBar
House of Blues
Comedy Club
Laugh Factory
Miyagi's Japanese
Dublins
The Standard
Key Club
Viper Room (Where River Phoenix passed away)
Chateau Marmont (Where John Belushi Passed away)
The Roxy, Rainbow Room bar (of Led Zepplin fame), Key Club, Gil Turner's liquer ( Former hang out of Keith Moon) The Tiffany Theatre, and many MANY che che boutiques.. Dolce and Gabbina, Fendi etc. Chin Chins Chinese, dress hot to cruise the strip.
Good, inexpensive burgers try Carnies.

James:

If you have the time, check out downtown too. Olvera Street, Little Tokyo and Chinatown offer a good look into the amazing diversity of our city. Plus once you're over walking around downtown LA, you can always hop on the METRO Red line subway and head over to Hollywood. The new mall/entertainment complex at Hollywood Blvd and Highland (also accessbile by subway) is also worth a look--Hollywood is really cleaning up a lot. Finally, even if you are from a coastal place, Southern California beaches are totally different from those found back east. Beach communities vary quite a bit. Santa Monica and Venice are nice, though a little too crowded with tourists. Manhattan Beach and Hermosa are nice beach towns with bars and shops to patronize. Enjoy.
