Hurricane Ike and my Honeymoon
So we are a week away from leaving on the honeymoon so I am wondering what we should do. From what I can gather things there have been cleaned up from Hannah but what about Ike?
We don’t mind the rain, Mrs. Sunflower prefers it actually but I rode out tropical storm Allison and that is way too much fun. So if any locals have any ideas or those with more experience want to pass on their thoughts that would be great.
Thanks.

Ok, wish I could help but I don't know very much about that part of the country. But look at it this way--if you are stuck in the room throughout your honeymoon, would it be so bad? ;-)
If you would like to track Ike's path I recommend a web page called www.stormpulse.com. Be sure to zoom out to get the full picture of the Gulf. Right now they are saying it will hit Houston but one can never know if Ike will change it's path.
Whatever happens--Happy honeymoon to the Sunflowers!!

SFG - I have the same probelm every year as you because I was married in Sept - the hurricane season. I assume your wedding is in Kansas, so the acutal wedding day should be awesome!
We have plans to go to the Bahamas this weekend for our 24th anniversary. I think we are still keeping them b/c Nassau should
be safe. We talked about maybe going to NY, Chicago or San Francisco if Ike persists. But I really NEED to see the ocean because I did not get to the beach this summer. Best of luck to you and Mrs. Sunflower. Enjoy your wedding!! We hope you post lots of fun pictures.

Congratulations, first off!
Definitely keep an eye on weather underground and stormpulse. 5-7 days out the predictions are often way off.
Are the Sunflowers driving or flying? If flying, I would check now with the airline and hotels on their policies.
Also, check out:

This energy resoration plan is from yesterday's meeting. Many parts of Baton Rouge still do not have power as of yesterday. The damage in that area was from Gustav - a true soaker of a storm that left a lot of flooding in its wake. It looks like most of the public schools are scheduled to resume on the 15th - provided that Ike heads a different way.

Congratulations!
I can't help with the destination, but I'll offer this advice. If you can cancel your hotel reservations at the last minute, don't stress about the destination. Watch the weather updates and have a back-up honeymoon plan. Hurricane Wilma hit Cancun on the day our family vacation was supposed to start. Even though Mexico was no longer our vacation destination, we still wanted to go somewhere. We ended up hopping in the car and heading to the national parks in Utah. It was a completely different trip than we had planned, but we still had a great time.
Good luck!

And where are the Sunflowers coming from? If from Texas, or west and north, you could be in the middle of it (and honeymoon in hotel, OK; Car? NOT)
We got email from friends in Baton Rouge this morning and they said the area, including Lafayette, still has major power outages from Gustav (as noted). NO is in better shape, but still has some problems.
Latest probabilities are anywhere from NO to Corpus. But that's 4-5 days out, so who knows.

Maybe a drive thru Colorodo would be nice and doable since you have chosen a casual honeymoon experience.
After Ike there's the J hurricane which may still be couring my destination of Bermuda next week.
Best wishes with whatever you decide. I am lucky, i adore rainy windy weather as much as sunny blue sky weather.

Gosh, I think you'll be fine. Scroll down for the 5-day cone. Looks like the southernmost point of Texas will get the hit.

Sunflowerguy03,
Don't cancel your reservation and go somewhere else. The latest models indicate that Hurricane Ike will be hitting South Texas. In that case, Louisiana may not even get rain. Usually with these storms, the storms actually suck all the moisture out from the other areas. The storm itself when it hits South Texas will be bad, but 1000 miles away in New Orleans it may just be sunny and nice.
I'd say, just do it!
