Hurricane and Travel Conditions

Wondering if anyone knows about how the hurricane may affect travelers on the eastern seaboard from MD up to NY. With a hurricane this size are there storm-like conditions that can extend well beyond Florida? Just a squeamish traveler trying to decide whether to embark on a trip to a barrier island in the mid-Atlantic that involves both a 3 hour flight and a 3 hour drive. Thanks!

When are you planning to travel? I think we are forecast for a rainy day (nothing terrible) on Tuesday here in NJ with the remnants of Frances making their way up the coast.

If you're planning Carolinas for over the weekend & early next week, I'd expect it to be a rainy trip.

A little more information would help but if you can avoid going north on
I-95, it should just be busy Labor Day Weekend traffic as usual.

Airports are already being closed in Florida, I would imagine the storm will cause many problems all over the East.

syd1, weather that far north should be beautiful this weekend. There might be a little rough surf, but sunshine & clear skies.

Hi Scarlett,

I recognize you from the Europe forum. Actually my brother, my son and I are all planning to fly to Jacksonville ( from Baton Rouge, San Francisco and Shreveport all through Atlanta) on late Saturday afternoon for my mother's 92 birthday celebration.

Please keep posting about conditions in Jacksonville.Especially if you hear that the JAX airport is closed. Sounds like we might be postponing our trip!

If you have connections in Atlanta, then you'll have delays. If there are connecting planes coming up from Florida then they will be late or cancelled. That will be your main problem.

Sally, I will be glad to let you know how things are here.
So far, things are calm, mostly sunny. I think that is called the Calm Before the Storm?
I will post as long as we have electricity~

Thanks to all and my thoughts are with everyone in FLA. I'm starting off in Atlanta which is always fun and filled with delays. Will likely see much more this weekend.
