Husband and I will be arriving in SF from the east coast late afternoon Friday. Planning to check out Fisherman's Wharf area (I know-touristy). Appreciate any suggestions on a place to eat. Looking for a GOOD meal, nothing fancy since we'll probably go back to our B&B and crash. We'll be in SF for 4 nights so additional suggestions for future dinners would be appreciated. Husband is a meat and potato man, but also enjoys seafood and Italian. Thanks your suggestions!

Just returned from SF and we had the same restaurant requirements our first night.
Stumbled across Cioppino's in the Wharf and our food was good and reasonable. We were comfortably dressed in travel clothes and fit right in.
It is seafood and Italian.

For lunch or dinner, you might want to check out Tommy's Joynt on Van Ness in the Cathedral Hill area. Good basic food in an interesting environment.

We had an amazing meal at Cafe Pescatore. All three of us had something different and all licked our plates clean.

If it's nice they have sidewalk seating.

For your second night, treat yourself to Italian at Antica on Polk Street. It's not a spaghetti and meatballs place, more a northern Italian cuisine. Anyway, it's all about the food there - not either terribly casual or formal, not overly decorated. The very first time I went there, I watched an elderly Japanese tourist couple dine there. They spoke not a word of English, so I kept my eye on them, since I speak a little Japanese and would have stepped in if necessary. But the staff went out of their way to help them, very warmly and unobtrusively. They seemed to be having a great time. I offer this story only because I've always been pleased with the good service and unostentatious vibe at Antica. Eat there and tell me if they still have that rose-petal ice cream on the dessert list!

When visiting friends insist on eating at the Wharf I usually recommend Cafe Pescatore. So far nothing but good reviews.
