Hello all I am planning on a trip to the Blue Ridge Mtn area for late Aug 2005. Can anyone tell what the weather is like that time of year? Also how high is the humidity? Thank you all for your help

Although August is a warm month, and it will be warm, it will feel a lot cooler than other places and will not have the humidity as, say, Florida.

I might be traveling to the same area next year in August. Is it usally like this, low in humidity?

Actually the humidity can be quite high; it rains quite a bit in the Blue Ridge mountains. The Blue Ridge mountains are sometimes considered a "semi" tropical rainforest. That's why there are more plant species than practically anywhere on earth. A new plant is identified yearly. The high humidity is the result of moisture created by the high rainfalls and lots of water from creeks, rivers, and waterfalls. Also moisture is "trapped" in all the flora. The "rising" dampness creates the "blue" haze, hence the Blue Ridge Mountains. What makes it feel more comfortable is high temps hardly get out of the 70's in the higher elevations and cool breezes occur. You will notice the humidity will be higher in early morn and lower during the middle of day.

Smokyboy, that's true about Tampa Bay -- because it's sub-tropical we have a great diversity of species. I've never made that stretch to the Blue Ridge being in the tropics! But I buy what you're saying, and you sound like you know the scoop.

Thanks for the kudo Tandoori. The scoop is, I was born in the mountains, I was raised in the mountains, I learned the mountains, I left the mountains, and I finally came back thank goodness! Btw, one of my travels when I left the mountains was to Clearwater! Lived & loved it.

Since there is a haze, does that mean the views aren't too good?
