How's my motel choice?
I made a reservation for the Best Western River North location for May 18-20. Is this a good choice for a reasonable rate and fairly good location. Parking is free and the rate is 98 for the first night and 116 for the other two. My plans are not solid enough to go with Priceline so I am seeking a compromise of sorts. I was going to book the Cass but after reading the post here, I got scared away. Trip Advisor gives it some good ratings?

Janfan, the closest you can get is "Illinois," not Chicago, when picking a geographic area. Further, this is helpful ONLY when people are searching by state. Most of us just browse the entire U.S. board so it's always helpful to put a city in the header or at least the body of your text.
The BW River North is located on the fringes of downtown Chicago. It would not be my first choice. HOWEVER, I'd say the free parking is a huge plus (I paid $30+ at the Hyatt last year) and the rates are reasonable. Based on that, I'd tolerate the short walk to/from Mich Ave.
Even you go with Priceline, you'll pay $50-70 for a room plus $30-40 for parking, so you STILL are probably better off with the BW.

janfan,
I agree with Dan that if free parking is your goal, go with the Best Western River North. The place is fine, no great shakes, but very serviceable.
Have you tried quikbook.com? You can often get more upscale hotels for Best Western prices. Right now QB is showing the Lenox Suites for about the same rate you're paying at the BW. It's right off of N. Michigan. Great location.

janfan,
You should be fine BW river north is in an excellent location for tourists. I can't belive it offer free parking!!?? I would verify that. Fantastic resturants are around there. If you like mexican try Fronterra grill-one of the best in the country(get there early the wait can be long). Word of advice - keep your car parked, you will have alot of trouble parking in chicago, garges and lots are expensive especially during the weekday, and if the sign says tow zone they mean it (150 towing fee + ticket(30-120))
Use your feet,CTA, and taxis
I live in the city and I never drive my car
