Attended a family reunion (inlaw) 4 hours from home. Had to leave by 7:00 am on Sat to get to the site in time. It was over later in the afternoon and I noticed around 6:30 or 7:00 pm that we weren’t really doing anything, ‘cept maybe waiting to go to bed. Suggested to my DH that we had plenty of evening left to make it home and sleep in our own bed (vs. the floor). We loaded everyone in the car left by around 8:00 pm and got home around midnight.

What’s the furthest you’ve driven to and from in one day??

We spent all day Sunday in Guanajuato and had a wonderful time.
Rest Truco 7 is among the best.

Wonderful weekend! Attended a wine festival Saturday, dinner and cocktails with friends Saturday evening and spend the day Sunday around our DD pool with friends and food. Doesn't get much better.

Furthest driven: maybe a twelve hour enduro on der Nurburgring with driver changes.
By myself, I think about 730 miles from Pomona, CA to Los Cruces, NM.

As for one day driving vacations, my money is on ***kim***. The drives from the Fresno area to San Jose to SF and then home are momentous!

Mikemo, my question, possibly misstated, is more about how far have you driven one way to an event and back home in one day? As you see mine was 4 hours each way done on Saturday. This left Sunday for sleeping in, reading the paper, quick trip to BevMo!

Furthest drive: Five hours for a soccer game and then back home in one day. Towns are very spread out in Montana!

Aaah the weekend...I enjoyed it so much I had to stay home from work today to recouperate!

Friday night we checked out Ricky Bobby's Talledega Nights and laughed pretty hard too GoT. Very Funny movie!

Saturday haircut appointment where I decided I "needed a change". Not so sure I'm happy with what I got...but may be the learning curve on styling. Stay tuned.

Saturday afternoon & evening - Birthday party for 1 year old with fun grown up party to follow. How did I stupidly get rooked into playing two games of volleyball? My back is trashed - hence the staying home today on a heating pad most of the day. The party was fun though...and we did win at volleyball. DH enjoyed beers and too many martinis and not enough food. Somehow he didn't feel any pain at volleyball (or after).

Sunday was a lazy day...slept in & tried to rest & finish up some chores around the house. Cooked yummy dinner of stuffed pork chops & Jersey sweet corn. Watched a movie "9 Lives" on DVD which was ok.

Not a bad weekend if you subtract the extreme back pain. Trish

This is one of the few weekends I've actually been in NYC this summer. Luckily, the weather was spectacular, and there was lots of fun city things to do.

Friday - drinks at Luna Park in Union Square, dinner at Shake Shack, party on a friends roof deck

Saturday - spent the whole day at Water Taxi Beach, which is my favorite new discovery in the city - check it out! Dinner outside at Casimir in the East Village.

Sunday - hair modeled for my roommates company. Managed to score $300 worth of highlights for free! Sushi for dinner in the W. Village.

Scarlett, you're house hunting??? Where? Portland? NYC? What have I missed?

I also have no idea about the shoe inventory? Can someone enlighten me?

Lovely weekend in the Hamptons. Outstanding weather but it's gone now. Back to HHH.

Spoke to friends this morning who are in the Berkshires for the month. They're suffering with mosquitos.

On Saturday, Hawaii Kai Towne Center wrapped up their FREE sunset summer concert series on their waterfront stage with Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom. She was fabulous, and so were her backup guys Chino, Jack, and Joe. Afterward I got to meet her and talk story. Eh, only in Hawaii you can make li' dat with celebrities. Travel related? Well, what is everyone waiting for? Come on over to Oahu to see what makes it great, beyond the borders of Waikiki!

I ran 12 miles yesterday, as posted on another thread. Painful! But more importantly, in the afternoon I went to visit with my 16 year old niece, who just spent her entire junior year in Beijing. She showed me more photos and gave me a trip report, including side trip reports on Tibet, the Mekong river, and camping in The Grasslands. This School Year Abroad has clearly changed her life, and I hope has changed the course of her life as well. In Hawaii, we tend to be a little sheltered, so this incredible experience has hopefully opened up all the possibilities that the world has to offer. I can't even begin to articulate how proud/happy/excited/etc. I am. So as far as that goes....I don't consider my weekend "gone." It's just the beginning!

I know I'm less one pair. I returned a pair of Bruno Magli shoes that I bought on sale recently at Nordstroms. What was I thinking? They were BROWN! "Oh, I need a another pair of brown shoes to wear to work". Yeah right! I teach second grade for God's sake. Wearing Bruno Maglis to my second grade classroom!?! Glue, paint, markers, snot, etc, etc, etc...I get in this strange justifying and rationalizing zone when I'm shopping for shoes. I can't explain it, but they're gone now! And I didn't buy another pair while I was there!

An old college friend and her husband spent the weekend. She was in town for the World Masters Swimming Meet over at Stanford. Something like 10,000 people from all over world competing. She swam three races and did very well. Wow. What a gorgeous pool set up they have over there. Very nice. We cooked hearty meals for them to give them energy! This was a bit of a treat as they were without their lovely girls (my goddaughters), so things were a bit more relaxed and we got to REALLY talk about stuff. I'll see the girls in two weekends when we do out annual Chico "survivors" reunion. A great time!

I spent 8 hours in the car driving home from Cape Cod Saturday. My husband "allowed" me to drive for a while, and then he just HAD to make a comment about my driving skills.

I give him credit, he only made one comment. There have times in the past I have pulled over at the next rest station and stormed out of the driver's seat around to the other side swearing and making gestures to him.

Sunday I stayed home, unpacked, and just unwined.

After a week with four teenage boys and two grown men who act far more immature than the teenagers, I need another vacation.

I hope that doesn't mean your vacation didn't go well, BuffaloGirl. I know how much you were looking forward to that trip to Cape Cod.

It did go well, CAPH. I really did look forward to it and it went by so fast!

BUT....I DID NOT GET TO PLIMOUTH PLANTATION!!!!!!! Despite your wonderful recommendations, I got voted down several times by "the boys" and I just gave up. Jerks. Hmph!!! I'll have to go myself if we return next year.

Not a good weekend at all.

My weekend started out good but took an ugly turn. I was supposed to work OT all weekend but got a last minute reprieve and didn't have to work Sat, but then I did work Sunday.

Sat was DH's bday and we had planned a fun night. When went to a comedy club and inadvertantly parked in a tow away zone. When we realized we were towed, we called the # on the sign and discovered the extortion would be $193.50. We weren't happy but decided to pay the fee and put this behind us. When we got to the impound lot we found they had COMPLETELY messed up the back side of our car!! This is a brand new, 2007 Honda that we only got 6 weeks ago and that damn tow truck driver did God knows how much damage to it!!

I've talked to the owner of the place and so far he won't give me insurance info yet. I called our agent and he's unsure if State Farm will pay because it happened while we were parked illegally!! GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

DH is really depressed that his new car got messed up and spoiled his 50th bday celebration. And to add insult to injury, we cannot move forward with getting it fixed because of these insurance complications. The car is still drivable, but it looks like crap from the back.

Beach memorial marks teen surfers' deaths
Family, friends mourn boys killed in crash

The laughter that normally permeates Carmel Beach on warm summer Sundays was briefly interrupted as scores of surfers and hundreds of friends and family paid tribute to two Carmel High School students killed last month in a crash on Highway 1.

More than 100 surfers paddled out into the water, forming a circle nearly 100 feet off shore as part of the memorial service honoring Alex Robbins, 16, and Ryan Field, 17.

"It was really poignant because they were such avid surfers, and they were just such a part of this community," said Tammy Francis. Francis and her husband, Sal, had known Field since he was 5 years old.

"I think everybody knew who they were," she said. "They were down here at the beach surfing all the time. I think it's wonderful, the outpouring of love and support from the community."

A bonfire blazed as mourners moved from a make-shift stage and podium to the shoreline. People filtered onto the beach from Scenic Road and past a tent containing childhood photos of the popular teenagers. A lei hung from a surfboard planted in the sand with handwritten messages on it.

Robbins and Field were in a truck with three other teenagers when it went over a cliff south of Big Sur on July 25 at about 8 p.m.

The teenagers were coming back from a surfing trip at Sand Dollar Beach. Three of the passengers survived the crash. Two had broken bones and another suffered minor injuries.

In the days since the accident, many of the boys' classmates said they have had time to reflect on what the pair meant to both them and the community.

"They (were each) one of us," said Vanessa Russo, a classmate of both Robbins and Field.

"Carmel is such a bubble. Everyone knows each other. You may not be best friends with everyone, but you know each other. You see people. When one is missing, you notice. We lost two."

As surfers paddled out, others handed out flowers to mourners. Hawaiian outriggers paddled out into the circle as the teens' families carried their cremated remains. The ashes were poured into the water and the surfers splashed furiously. Back on the beach, mourners inched closer to the shoreline and tossed their flowers into the ocean.

Throughout the day, Carmel police worked to control traffic along Scenic Road. The State Parks department provided a lifeguard for the memorial and Carmel Fire Department and Pacific Grove Ocean Rescue were on hand if help was needed.

"We're just here to support the family and provide a hand, otherwise we're trying to stay as low-key as we can," said Kip Evans, of Pacific Grove Ocean Rescue.

The day ended with friends of Robbins and Field consoling each other.

"We are just going to stay here and talk," said Russo. "There are a lot of people who need comfort right now."

I "wonder" if you took the Towing Truck Co. to small claims court if you would have a chance. You would normally I would think..but with being illegally parked maybe not. Do you have a family attorney you could make a quick phone call to her that could advise you on this. I am so sorry, I can only imagine how upset you two must be.

Hello LI. Hearing from you so quickly was like getting a much-needed hug.

We have considered small claims court if the guy continues to refuse to provide insurance info. I don't know any lawyers, but my Dad might so I will call him if necessary. It's possible that our insurance will pay, but they won't commit to that. They told me situations like this are judged on a case by case basis.

In the meantime I will keep after this guy at the impound lot. I forgot to mention that right after we left the impound lot we went straight to the police and filed a report, so this will help our case if it does go to court. But small claims court is a very long process and it might be a year or more before our case is heard.
