Flying to Knoxville and need to know how to get to Pigeon Forge. Is there shuttle service? Will a taxi be too expensive?
Thanks!

It's going to be a car rental. Maybe bus service to Gatlinburg goes through it. It is maybe 40 miles? 15 miles from I40 and then back to Knoxville. What is the purpose of your trip, may I ask.

I'd agree that the simplest way to go is a car rental; even once you're in PF, the public transit is (I believe) pretty much limited to the trolley. Unless you're planning to stay in the same place for your entire trip (no restaurants, etc.), you'll probably want a car. (Gatlinburg is a different story - much more walkable, although you'd probably still want a car to get there, go to the mountains, etc.)

However, I would not go I-40 from the Knoxville airport. Take Hwy 321 instead. It's curvy, but much more scenic. Going I-40 would have you going through all of Knoxville's traffic (and they're doing construction right now), plus taking the most popular way into Sevierville/PF/Gatlinburg. 321 takes you the back way through Maryville and Townsend.

It's a good 40 mile trip. You need to rent a car. Plus, Pigeon Forge isn't big on public transport either, so you will want a car to get around there.

Thanks guys...
Gretchen, My son is moving there and will not have his car until after we arrive in Pigeon Forge...we may end up driving, so I appreciate the driving tips from jent103.

As an alternative to Hwy 321 you could take Alcoa Highway to downtown Knoxville and then Chapman Highway to Sevierville and then 66 to Pigeon Forge. Google Maps should have those roads listed by name with highway number (I believe Chapman Hwy is 441). I wouldn't bother with I-40.

Yes, it's good to know the back roads, and I hadn't taken into consideration coming from the airport. I pass that way often--and my mother was from Knoxville. But that is unrecognizable now.
