How to avoid NYC traffic

Hi, I need to travel from Brattleboro, VT to Nottingham, PA. I would like to avoid NYC traffic. Can anyone advise me on an alternate route. It takes about five and a half hours via 91 to I believe it's 195, Ive gone via GW bridge and Verazanno tunnel, both more traffic than I'm comfortable with. Thank you in advance.

Take a look at Route 84 across the Hudson and the Tappan Zee and see if they can help.

What about taking I84 through Pennsylvania? It's an alternate route offered by Google.

I84 does not use the Tappan Zee bridge, I287 does.

Plan to arrive NOT during rush hours. Not between 610am, nor 4-7pm.

As has been suggested, you could take 91 to 84 to 81 etc.

Another option is 91 to 84 to 681 to 287 (Tappan Zee) to garden state pky to 80 etc

If you want a scenic break, 91 to 84 to 209 (along the Delaware Water Gap, stop and walk out to a waterfall) to 80

There are a number of ways to do it.
If you really want to swing wide of the NYC metro area, take 91 south to Hartford, then 84 west all the way to Scranton, then 476 south to the PA Tpke west, then Rte 202.

The problem with taking 287 and the Garden St Pkwy is that you still risk hitting some heavy traffic, depending on what time of day you take the route. The GS Pkwy can be a real pain to drive when the traffic is bad.
