5 in 6 years - kaanapalli,hana/kauai, -- kaui,----- maui-hana,--- maui-lanai,---- kauai-hana/maui

hanalei- forgot to say.. We are from Idaho..not the west coast.. Sometimes takes us 3 planes and 12 hours to get there.

I lived on Oahu while in the Army from 1981-84 (had both my kids there) and have been back about every other year since then.

Sorry, I meant to say the first time I was in Hawaii was 1988.

Since 1976 I have been 12 times I think. I am trying to go every other year these days. Kauai is my recent fave-rave and am planning out next trip there for 2005. My goal is to go every year after then.

I've been to Hawaii every year for the last 16 years. Started going each year when my husband and I lived in Alaska. It was the best winter getaway, and we got hooked. Started our going for 2 weeks, and in the last 10 years extended our stay to a month each year. Headed to Kauai again this coming February and can't wait. Kauai is definitely our island of choice, but we have been to all of the other islands as well. Also we live on the West coast now so it is fairly easy to get to the islands.

Why anybody would go back to the same place year after year is waaaay beyond me.

BTW, FORTY days for our umpteenth time!!!!!!!!

Wow, I enjoyed all the posts about Hawaii. Maui is my personal favorite island. You all gave me the itch to go back. Already been earlier this year.
I just miss that place. It's paradise!!

Not evryone likes Hawaii. Where did you go John and what aspects made you feel that Hawaii was over rated. What other destinations were you comparing to ?

Hawaii overated. No way. I'd like to know about that to John. I do have a friend who didn't care for Hawaii. She said it reminded her of Mexico if you can believe that!!

My parents went to Maui once, stayed in Kaanapali and while they loved the visual beauty of the island, they disliked the traffic and congestion...
My mom called it "a glorified Florida".
Sad but true... They generally travel to small quiet Caribbean islands.

One of these days (soon!) I'm taking
her to Hanalei and/or north shore Oahu. Then we'll see what she thinks.

As one tourist told me on the rental car shuttle when I asked him how he liked his first trip to Hawaii..."Other than the ocean, there's nothing here that we don't have in Wisconsin".

To each his own. I prefer my cheese in Kauai.
