Americans did not get to be who they are if they were made of sugar candy.

Several business meetings I planned on attending have been cancelled. Most companies that have planned meetings for the financial community in the next 30 days have postponed them.

A big test will be the COMDEX computer show in Las Vegas in early November.

My mom just cancelled her trip to visit me in San Francisco from Tampa. She (age 82) said it wasn't fear but what could be the waiting time at departure and connections. Maybe later in the year. I think it's best that I travel her way. I personally have tickets for NYC in December and I will go.

The bad thing is that some of us may be FORCED to cancel our trips. Of the 50,000 Reservists and Guard troops who are being recalled, how many had trips in their future? Now, they'll be going on a trip, but it almost assuredly won't be to the same place. And, with war on the close horizon, we may be very limited in where we can go. I have tickets in hand for a November trip to Spain. At this instant, I don't plan on cancelling it--but who knows what the future holds. We were also beginning to plan a week in London in January. We have stopped planning. If we are at war, will I want to go out of the country? Probably not. The other questions is: "Will I be allowed to go out of the country?" Again, there is a chance that all travel will be limited to that required for the war effort and for business requirements. (That happened in WW II and could happen again.) We need to get it in our heads and to accept the fact that our lives will not go on as before. We need to be willing to tighten belts, and that may well mean giving up the travel we all love. (Isn't it wonderful what the perpetrators of this tragedy have done to a whole nation? By this, I certainly don't mean to place travel as the prime concern at this time--just that we need to be ready for anything, even those things we hate to face.)

I am cancelling a trip to France planned for October, and will, instead, do something in the U.S.

My sister and her husband just cancelled a vacation trip to NYC. They were scheduled to leave Zurich on October 1. It would have been their first trip to NYC, not the States though. I feel sorry for them, because they were looking so much forward to it. On the other hand, I am somewhat glad they postponed it.

It's not a question of wanting to cancel a trip......it is are you able to! We were scheduled to sail on HAL from Vancouver through the Inside passage and back. I have tried all weekend to cancel my trip, but because I did not puchase their travel insurance they will not give me a cruise credit for next season. They said....."if the flights are coming in we are not giving cruise credit(s)."

I think under the circumstances they should allow people to decide whether they want to travel (my biggest concern is leaving the country and of course, flying).

Do I go and take my chances or lose thousands of dollars?

My fiance and I are still going to Montreal in a few weeks, although if my tickets were refundable I would stay home. My fear is not necessarily flying (I'm always a little afraid to fly in general), but of being out of the country if and when we strike back.

Kelcey don't go on the trip if you don't want to regardless of the money. I am tentatively still planning a trip to europe. I know that I can't get arefund of about $2000, but if I don't feel comftorable travelling at the end of October I will not go. And believe me, I can't afford to replace my airline tickets and reschedule for any time in the near future.

Well, I have trips planned. One to Atlanta next Friday and another to Italy in March.

When all this first happened, I stood hard and fast that *I* was not goign to allow the ignorant morons who did these horrible things to effect my life. But over the past few days, seeing the tragic stories of the victims and their families on the news shows, I started to waiver in my thinking.

Is it allowing them to win by NOT going or do they win whenever they are given the chance to show up on the news?

I still haven't decided.

My husband and I canceled our late Sept. trip to D.C. We had planned on taking our 9 and 14 year old to see the sights. They are not crazy about the idea of getting on a plane so soon. Plus, if we are at war we figured the security in D.C. would be unbelievable. Just didn't feel comfortable going so soon, but hope to reschedule for next spring. Southwest Air could not have been nicer and issued a credit good for one year.

Screw Bin Laden. We're headed for Africa in October and Paris in December, as scheduled and on schedule. The most important aspect is under control ... making sure the cats are fed on time. If you're reading this, Usama, screw you. Ciao

We live in CT and were to go to NYC for our anniversary in early October. My husband still wants to go but it would be hard to be relaxed and happy when an unspeakable tragedy occured a few blocks away. I would be nervous, too. Since 9/11 there have been hundreds of bomb threats. We'll drive to the coast of Maine this time and return to NYC at some time when things feel calmer.

I am supposed to fly to TX in March and hope that by then I have more confidence in airport security than I do now.

We have a long weekend planned in NYC next month and have gone back and forth about canceling. NY's mayor said yesterday, "Please come!" as NYers need the tourist income, etc. But would it be disrespectful? I just don't know.

Thought this was interesting. I attended a silent auction Saturday night where 2 of the items auctioned off were a trip to Kenya and a trip to the Amazon. This is an annual auction and these trips are always fiercely bid for and the highlight of the auction. Not one person even made an opening bid on either trip. If that doesn't tell you that people are uncertain and afraid to travel, I don't know what would. By the way it was decided on Saturday that the proceeds would go to the families of the firefighters instead of the church.

The only way it would be disrespectful to visit is if you went to the site and said, so whens the WTC tour start?

I say go to New York, it's still a awesome city and they need your money. Plus, I assume prices will be at a low and you can take advantage.

In a Month everything should be fine too, assuming that the terrorists dont plan another attack!

I canceled my Boston trip last week, this was after the disaster and they were discovering terrorists there, I took a detour.
Having fun anyway.
