It's doing it to me too, BeachGirl, and now I sound like a moron all on my posts because they apply to what I saw, not the post that's there now.

Did that even make sense?

I've driven an hour for a flight. Even with the cost of a rental car it was a great deal. Also, the time saved flying from the bigger airport was well worth the time spent driving up there.
Just make sure you get a rental car that doesn't charge a huge drop off fee.

My only concern about a longer drive to the airport would be having to drive that extra distance home after the vacation - might be pretty tired after a long flight. But, for over $1000 in savings, I would definitely do it, no matter how long my flight - with a contingency plan of staying in a hotel near the airport upon arrival and driving home the next day if I was really beat. If the flight wasn't long, and in this case since we aren't talking about an overseas flight or anything, I'd probably make the extra drive for a $500 savings.

Barry,

Check into limo service to/from the airport. By the time you figure gas and parking and the covenience of a drop at the terminal, it can easily be worth it. When we do it that way the kids love it (we have 4) and it feels like the vacation starts when we get in the limo.

Have a great trip,

Kevin

Barry, I would do it in a heart beat!

I live in Delaware and I know how PHL can be! I will drive to BWI, DCA, and EWR. BWI is about 70-80 minutes, PHL about 30- 40, and EWR and about 80-90 mins. DCA is a hike but I got a good deal to Provo last year from Reagan.

I have saved a lot of money flying out of the different airports in the area.

Barry, we've done this.

We live in NY, but drove to Boston to take a flight to Bermuda. We did use hotel points for a night at the airport on our return trip, but overall we saved a significant amount on airfare for the four of us.
