Ask the people you made the first reservation with if they will honor the rate you found elsewhere.

It depends entirely what kind of establishment you are talking about, where it is, if it is a small/privately owned organization or a corporation, if they are otherwise booked, or if it is a busy time of year there. See if there is a cancellation policy for your deposit - it may be worth it to pay a cancellation fee and book the lower rate. Without knowing the cancellation policy, I can't really say.

Do you mean you booked accommodations through Joe's Hotel and Resort which is the onsite property rental company but have found Fred's Condo Rentals has similar accommodations at the same property cheaper?

Fred's is offsite and will not offer you the same level of service. They will not have daily maid service and you will have to provide your own linens. Also, no one at a front desk so if you have an emergency, say your AC blows at 2AM, you'll have to tough it out until 9AM when Fred's Condo Rentals opens for business.

Lastly, companies such as Kiawah Island Resort will not let you use their pools unless you book through them.

Make sure the lower price is worth it.

good point. Sometimes you do get more for your money in the long run. You really need to investigate.

actually i have booked thru one rental agency but have found a lower price thru another rental agency; as far as i can tell there is no renting thru the establishment itself. the establishment is the inn at blue mountain beach in santa rosa, fl. and it is for the exact unit #, not just something similar.

Find out what the cancelation fee will be.

Are you getting any more for your money?

Lastly, ask the company you have booked with if they will match the price from the other rental company. It never hurts to ask.

Make sure if you switch that you aren't giving something up that you find has value.

Example, if I had to schlep all my linens and towels across country and then back, it wouldn't be worth a $200 savings to me.

You know, Abram, I was thinking the same thing? I'd consider taking #2 up on their deal and see if they can actually confirm it, considering it's already rented.
Any way you look at it, it seems one of these two companies is not as "reputable" as you think they are.

Come on guys..... It could be a hotel or condo property with several of the same type unit.

That is peculiar. I think I'd be looking for a different unit altogether if the second management company is willing to rent it too. Then again, they could contact the second listing and find that they are told it is no longer available for the time period they want.
