Houston Nightlife?
My husband and I have lived outside of Houston for about 10 months. Tonight we decided to go out in downtown Houston for the first time. While there were a lot of bars open most were DEAD. It seemed like the bars were trying, playing games on tv, bands playing, etc. But it was just dead. Also we heard there was supposed to be a food truck festival in that area tonight and there were literally 2 food trucks even though the road was closed for this "event".
Is there another area of the city that has a more exciting nightlife scene?

Midtown seems to have the most bars and, in general, the most activity. http://www.midtownhoustonbars.com/ Also, google "best bars in Houston" to get an idea of where to go.

If you've lived in the Houston area about 10 mos, you should know that the downtown is a dead zone after working hours.
Have you checked the local alt-weekly? Timeout? Anything similar?
Have you gone to the Rice area or the Galleria area?

I don't have any advice, but thought I would share this--when I was in the Nashville area in April for a concert series, one evening I was talking with a couple from Houston who had come for the same concerts as I had. They were bemoaning the Houston area when it came to entertainment and music venues--they were scattered all over the place and were frequently a long drive in heavy traffic from their house--they wished there were one or two entertainment/arts areas with a concentration of fun stuff to do.
