House on the Strand?
Anyone ever stayed or have any info on houses for rent on the strand in Hermosa or Manhattan Beach? I lived in Hermosa Beach 10 years ago and I distinctly remember vacationers staying in the houses on the strand but I cannot find any info on the web now about vacation houses for rent. Thanks!

would suggest getting copies of the local newspaper (Daily Breeze), and contacting local real estate offices (copious agent listings in the weekly freebie paper Beach Reporter).
Since a Strand house is typically selling for $2 million & up, I suspect rent is going to be outrageously high.

You could also check out the Beach House at Hermosa, a new hotel (time-share, I think) on the Strand. Ocean views are about $250-300/night, according to their web-site (beach-house.com). Rooms look small (I've often peered into them while walking on the Strand), but very nice, and what a killer location, just north of Pier.

Nancy, thank you. I have found the website for the Beach House at Hermosa hotel. In fact, that's all I find when I do a search for a beach house in Hermosa! It's nice but we are a large family celebrating my mother's 80th birthday and we'd prefer a house. I know it won't be cheap but it's cheaper than flying everyone to Tuscany. Any more help here?

I used the www.google.com Search Enging and typed in search words:
Hermosa Beach, CA vacation rentals
and then did the same substituting
Manhattan Beach. I found one for Manhattan; doubt it's the kind of thing you're really looking for but here's the website address:
http://www.virtualcities.com/vacation/ca/x/caxa9v1.htm
We also lived in Hermosa Beach many years ago. I think the reason there's so few neither is really known as a major tourist destination. Same goes for Manhattan Beach.
You might try contacting a realtor or two in each of the cities to see if they're handling that type of rental or can refer you to someone who does.
Perhaps you can pick another beach town more known...say, Laguna Beach.
There's a large vacation rental website called
www.vrbo.com
you might try as well.
Good luck!

Found another 'vacation rental' website down about 4 pages on the Google Search Engine.
There's 1 for Manhattan Beach, others listed and described (but no photos) for other beach cities. Is La Jolla a possibility?
Here ya go.....

Here's another 'vacation rental' website, Susan. Nothing for Hermosa or Manhattan but other southern California beach cities are listed.
For what it's worth.......

Wow, Susan's Helper, thanks for your assistance. You better stop before you get as frustrated as I'm become. Having lived in Hermosa before yourself I think you know what I'm looking for and we're just not going to find it on the web. I'll be in LA next month and I'll just take a walk on the strand and hope some "vacation house for rent" signs will be up. Thanks again!
