Hotels Near Chicago Marathon Start/Finish

Looking for recommendations for hotels near the start/finish of the Chicago Marathon.

Last year's course map is on the website, but it says that the 2007 will be posted this summer. Does the course really change that much? We would like to stay within walking distance to the start & finish which was in Millenium Park in 2006. Any help would be appreciated.

The marathon usually blocks rooms at the hotels closest to the start/finish. Have you checked the website?

Forgot to add, race courses usually do not change at all.

I have checked the website. They currently only have 3 host hotels on the site, all which are $300+/night. For the NY Marathon this year, we were able to get the Embassy Suites for $250/night and we've gotten similar rates for Boston.

I'm assuming because of the size of the race that the course would be the same. However the website says the 2007 course map will be released mid-summer..

The Hilton on South Michigan Avenue, the Essex Inn and the Congress Hotel are likely the closest hotel to the marathon start/finish (which as others have pointed out does not change year over year). The Hard Rock won't be that far too (on North Michigan). The start/finish is just east of the loop, so any hotel in the loop or the near north side will be relatively close.

I should point out that some of the staff at the Congress Hotel have been on strike for years (literally years) - I have no idea how (if at all) service is impacted, but they are always out there picketing! Hubby and I run (and have done the marathon!) and run down Michigan Avenue a lot and always see the strikers out there.

The Fairmont (on Columbus) will also be relatively close - in fact you run right underneath it in the first 1/4 (?) mile of the marathon.

The Embassy Suites on Columbus will be a bit further, but not too far.

Other hotels that come to mind (probably within 1/2 to 1 mile of the start/finish:
W City Center, Palmer House, Hotel Allegro, Hotel Monaco, Renaissance (on Wacker), Hotel 71, Wyndham (on Michigan)...

That should be a good start. Good luck and have fun training! Not running this year myself, but will be out cheering!

Thanks for the suggestions on the hotels. We'll be looking at hotels and sending in our marathon reg's this week!
