Hotels in New Orleans

Hi-

We are staying in New Orleans for a couple nights at the end of June and would love some hotel recommendations. We have 2 boys ( 10 & 13 ) and want to stay in a very safe area of the city. We will definitely be spending time visiting the French Quarter but don't necessarily have to stay there. I am thinking $150 would be the very top of our budget for the hotel.

Also, any restaurant recommendations would be great - we are foodies for sure, but would love to try a place where the locals go.

Thanks
Judy

Thanks for all the hotel options. We would like to try anything cajun, seafood - not necessarily fine dining but anyplace with really good food, can be casual or a dive

I agree you want to stay in the Quarter. Not sure you'll be able to do it with 4 people within your budget though. You could try Priceline.

Yep - stay in the FQ. Your time in NOLA is short.

FYI, if you're planning to stay in one room, Priceline won't work (they only guaranty bedding for two, and that could be one double bed).

I'm sure you'll be very happy staying in the FQ, but we were very happy staying OUT of the FQ, near Cochon and Emeril's, and the WWII Museum (which is brilliant, by the way), and the art district -- an area called the warehouse district.

Hi-

I have dwindled down my hotel list to 4 - I would love to know which one would be the best for location/parking/safety.

Hotel Monteleone
Dauphine Orleans
Hotel Mazarin
Maison Dupuy Hotel

Any other suggestions about these hotels would be great.

Thanks!
Judy

Hotel Monteleone and Hotel Mazarin are in better/safer areas than Maison Dupuy Hotel or Dauphine Orleans.

At the risk of inciting unwanted flaming, VERY GENERALLY speaking, below Bourbon St. is better than above Bourbon St., IMO.

I would call both Hotel Monteleone and Hotel Mazarin and see you can give you a better deal on a room and parking.

Hotel Monteleone and head across the street to Mr B's for the best BBQ shrimp! It is a favorite.

You will also be close to Acme oyster house (on Iberville) for great po-boys and red beans and rice. Deanies is closer to the The Ritz Carlton near Dauphine and Iberville, I think...good seafood platters. Check out Napoleon House for the cute courtyard and warm muffalettas. I also like the Gumbo Shop for all sorts of things. Be sure to hit Cafe du Monde for cafe au lait and beignets...breakfast or snack. Try to avoid chains like Landry's and Bubba Gump and eat at real local places!
