Hotels in Las vegas
My husband and I are going to Vegas in September. This will be the first time for both of us. I have checked out some to the hotels and I admit am a bit overwhelmed. can anyone give me some advice on where to stay at a reasonable rate (not cheap)?

Please post a $amount that you consider to be reasonable. Also have you travelled to other countries, if so you might want to skip Parisian and Venetian, they are great but nothing like the real thing if that is what you are looking for.
Do you like to swim? Mandalay Bay has a great pool and so do other hotels.
Do you like to eat at foreign restaurants? L.V. Hilton has several choices.
Give more info and you will get lots of responses.

You have many choices of course..but it helps when you qualify them by saying ( not cheap)..I would say :
1) Venetian
2) Bellagio
3) Four Seasons located in the Mandalay Bay.
The Venetian is nice..and is the most centrally located of these three...you could not go wrong with any of theses...

There is tremendous variety, as you know. Depends on what you like/want.
Best for luxury is Bellagio, best all around combination of room quality/restaurant variety and quality/casino/pools is Mandalay Bay, but there are very good reasons to consider Venetian, Paris, Treasure Island, Mirage, Caesar's etc.
Tell us what you want out of your visit and we'll offer opinions.

Two Tips:
September will be HOT, HOT, HOT.
However, all buildings and all rental cars are air conditioned.
For lower rates on all hotel rooms, time your visit for Sunday through Thursday nights. Friday and Saturday nights are always higher -- in some cases, a lot more expensive.
Most luxurious and currently everyone's favorite is the Bellagio. It's also the most expensive.
The following website has some very good and detailed descriptions of most of the hotel rooms casinos and is humorous as well.

I would stay at Mandalay Bay or Monte Carlo. MB would be my first pick. The pool area is excellent and they have some good restaurants. Monte Carlo's pool area isn't bad but not nearly as big and varied as MB. Monte Carlo is more centrally located right near New York, New York and MGM Grand and they have a tram to Bellagio which will get you to Paris and Ceasar's.
Andre's French restaurant at Monte Carlo is very good but my first pick for food would be Smith & Wollensky's on the strip. Good steaks, killer "crackling pork shank", very good lobster bisque and a comfortable "classy/casual" atmosphere. We ate there twice last weekend.
If you want an over-the-top buffet experience, go to Bally's and do Sunday Sterling Brunch at their steakhouse. It's excellent. The service feels like a four star restaurant, all waiters in white coats and black bowties.
Another good restaurant is Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris. The Hanger Steak is very good, their scallop potatoes are excellent and their creme brulee and chocolate mousse are the best this side of Paris, France.
We go to Vegas fairly often (live in SoCal), let me know if you have any questions.
By the way, if you like luxury pool service, you may want to consider the Four Seasons at the top of Mandalay Bay tower. We stayed their for a night last summer and the pool service is incredible. We ordered drinks and went to the hottub only to have the pool girl and a cocktail waiter to follow us there 5 minutes later to ask if we wanted our drinks in the cabana, or at the hottub. They also come around with Evian spritz, orange slices and cucumber slices every so often. Even the pool service at the Regent in Bangkok (a Four Season's property) couldn't compete with the service we got poolside at the Four Season's in Vegas.

I would recommend both Monte Carlo and Mandalay Bay.
We stayed at Monte Carlo 2 years ago, and enjoyed it. The service was good, the room was clean, the restaurants were good and the casino was better than some others on the strip. But, I think the location is the best, close to the other hotels/casinos and with the tram to the Bellagio. We used the tram every time we went in that direction on the strip and our feet thanked us later.
But, if I were to go back to LV in the future (and when it was warm, we went in Dec) I would probably consider Mandalay Bay because of the pool. Although it is off the strip, the amenities are supposed to be so much better than those on the strip. And, if you have other things to do (i.e. the pool), then you will stay away from the casinos during the day and not spend as much money. And, you will not tire of the casinos and enjoy your evenings that much more!
