Hotels in Beverly Hills

My fiancee and I are trying to decide on a hotel in Beverly Hills for our honeymoon in May this year. We've narrowed the choice down to three - the Peninsula, the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Regent Beverly Wilshire.
We're looking for a hotel with large, well appointed rooms, a pool to relax by and a good location within Beverly Hills (we like walking, so distances to attractions aren't too much of a problem). Privacy and quiet are also quite important!
We're hoping to make this a very special holiday, so if anyone has any news or views, we'd love to hear them.
Thanks!

We spent a weekend at the Regent Beverly Wilshire a couple years ago. We had a junior suite which was wonderfully comfortable. Service is impeccable. It's quite quiet in the hotel and has a lovely pool area but the actual location is very central on Wilshire Blvd at Rodeo Drive. We loved it because you can walk to everything (including Nate'n Al's Deli--yum), but if you want to be secluded, perhaps this is not for you (we were at a large awards weekend, not on our honeymoon!) The Beverly Hills Hotel is more secluded up on Sunset. They are both classics in LA. I would think the Beverly Hills is more expensive but even if you don't stay, have a drink or reserve well ahead for brunch at the Polo Lounge (it used to be one of the few left in LA to require men's jackets--you might ask if that is still the case). There's also the Bel Air Hotel on Stone Canyon which has gorgeous gardens with waterfalls and swans--much more isolated feeling. Have not been in the Peninsula but good things are always said about it. Don't know if you HAVE to be in BH or if you could consider Shutters at the Beach in Santa Monica which is my favorite hotel in Los Angeles (although a bit less formal than the ones you've chosen, but as exclusive) or the beautifully restored Casa del Mar with its 1920s look. From either of these you could walk and walk along the beach.Clientele at either of these two tends to be a bit younger, at least to my thinking. Any of these choices would be ideal for a honeymoon. Congratulations.

Kam hit it right on. If location counts (ie, you won't have a car), then the Regent is the best bet because it is still luxurious and is within walking distance of most of the major shops and restaurants of BH. Its cross streets after all are Wilshire and Rodeo Drive! However, I hear that the Peninsula is more posh, and the BH Hotel more resort-like. You should know that the BH Hotel is situated in a residential neighborhood so you will need to walk several blocks to get to anything. If you're looking for luxury, another place to consider is L'Ermitage.

The Santa Monica rec is a good one. It's less formal but also less stuffy, and in May, the weather will be gorgeous that you may want the beach rather than a pool. Plus, there is a lot more to see, walking-wise, in Santa Monica than in BH.

The best honeymoon experience (hotel wise) you'll be able to arrange for less than $1000 per night is to get a villa suite at the Peninsula.
These are very different from the standard rooms in many ways. The standard rooms are nice. The villa suites are well beyond nice.
The atmosphere, service, privacy, and food at the Peninsula are at least equivalent to the many Four Seasons hotels I've stayed at. Some would consider the atmosphere a bit stuffy. I consider it very tasteful, private and refined.
The Regent is not quite in the same league as the Peninsula. That's not just my opinion. Ask anyone who knows BH hotels well.
Shutters on the Beach was a tremendous disappointment to me last year. I wouldn't return there if the rooms were under $100 per night. The location is unbeatable, but this is one overrated hotel if you like nice hotels. I changed rooms three times and was eventually upgraded to a suite for free and still found it cheaply furnished and far from immaculate.
I'm a hotel nut and demanding to be sure. But SOTB banks heavily on its location to compensate for its other shortcomings IMO.

We have stayed at all three hotels and have had good experiences at all but would highly recommend the Peninsula. It is wonderful.

Go with the Peninsula: Newer, nicer and within walking distance to just about anything!
