Hotels for New Year's Eve

Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels around NYC that wouldn't be too expensive for New Year's Eve?

I was also looking into hotels in Newark, NJ since I have heard that Newark isn't too far from NYC. Is Newark a bad area?

Why do you want to stay in New Jersey if you are wanting to visit New York City? Newark especially isn't a great place to stay.

Jersey City hotels are close in price to Manhattan hotels.

What about hotwire or priceline?

The Travel Inn and Red Roof Inn in Midtown get great reviews as budget hotels.

The only reason why I thought of Newark is because the hotels that I found were cheap and it isn't too far away from NYC.

It will be a $60 cab ride to and from Manhattan from Newark so that would ad at least $120 to the price of your hotel. Not to mention the time it takes and the stress of the commute.

This just isn't a great idea.

Check the Hyatt in Jersey City; much closer to the city than Newark. You can get there on the PATH which is like the subway but runs under the Hudson River. Although I agree that staying in Manhattan whill be much, much more convenient.
