Is it possible to get a nice, clean hotel in NYC for around $100.00 per night. We would be going sometime in May. I would love any suggestions or recommendations. Thanks!

Shannon, with your $100 budget, there are really only two ways to go: either opt for one of the smaller hotels with a shared bath (these are generally spoteless), such as the Murray Hill In, Habitat, or Larchmont, or use one of the discount services such as quickbook.com or hoteldiscounts.com, which are selling off unbooked rooms at the more conventional hoyels. Clean you can find, "nice" is pretty subjective, but you're looking at the most basic accommodations for that price. NY is an expensive city.

When posting a message, it would be most helpful if posters could learn to add the name of the city to their heading.

Silly nnn, there is no mention of NYC in the title, which is all that appears in the list of threads on the right.

Shannon, check out the "B&B" networks for NYC -- these are agencies that place you in someone's apartment for short stays -- often less expensive than hotels and you can prepare your own meals some of the time, which also saves money.

They've got a thread on New York City/Northern New Jersey hotels that includes reports of people's successful and unsuccessful Priceline bids for the New York City area.

Recent successes for May include 3* Roosevelt Midtown East for $90+$5 bonus (bonus money available via a link on the Web site), 4* Marriott New York Marquis for $95+$5 bonus, 3* Radisson Eastside for $102+$5 bonus, 4* NY Hilton Midtown West for $115+$5 bonus, and 3* Novotel NYC Midtown West for $85+$5 bonus. (There's also a $5.95 Priceline fee that gets charged per winning bid.)

There are FAQs with information on bidding strategies, and you can also use the information in other people's winning bids to fashion your own strategies.

Try priceline.com. That's how I found a nice room in a Marriott during a weekend last March (for $100; paid $113/double/night. Part of the process is to specify the neighborhood where you want to stay. If all else fails, why not?, put a bid on priceline.
