Hi!

I've been checking hotel prices and availability through various websites of this sort. I prefer more control and flexibility than priceline provides and have been looking for good, reliable alternatives.

I like what I have seen so far, on a brief visit to hoteldiscounts.com. Does anyone here have experience in dealing with them? Are there any other good sites that I should be looking at?

Someone else on this forum reccomended this downloadable program to me and I have found it very useful. It searches most of the online hotelbookers and displays the results in an easy to read grid.Here is the link.

I used hoteldiscount.com to book two hotels last November and had a very good experience. I did it over the phone (same rates are available as online) and the guy was really nice and helpful. I've also found their rates to be very competitive.

If you are ever interested in a particular Hyatt, the best rates are online through Hyatt.com.

I've used hoteldiscounts.com, but they are a site that often requires prepayment and that's a drawback. Another site to check:

Oliveoyl makes a good point in that you should always check the hotel chains' own sites, too. More are responding to the problem of their customers turning to outside sites. That cuts into the hotels' yields and things are beginning to tighten up a bit. Hilton, for example, may not offer its popular HHonors program points for bookings via most outside sites in the future (already the case with Priceline bookings and most loyalty programs.) The Holiday Inn group is guaranteeing that they will offer the lowest rates available on the net through their own site or match. Stay tuned.

I, too, agree with OliveOyl - by watching their website regularly I managed to drop our Bourbon St. balcony room from $285 a night to a much easier to handle $152. Prices tend to flucutate and you really have to do your homework, but it's worth it in the end. Good luck!
