Hotel with easy access to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Hi! My friend asked me to help her find a good choice in New York to take her grandkids for the parade this year. I have checked out the Ameritania and Novotel Hotels and they are upwards of $500 per night for two adults/two kids. Perhaps they don't have to be directly on the parade route, so it will be a little more affordable. Personally, I like the Lucerne but no rooms available for 2/2. Any help from anyone on this forum?

That is possibly the most expensive wekend of the year in NYC. And any hotel on the parade route (even without window views - will be in that price range). In fact - that's ot a bad price for anyplace tht weekend.

If you want to stay on the upper west sie, see the stat of the parade as ell as the balloons being blownup the night before at a better rate have a look at the Beacon (modest) or Newton (basic but clean).

Actually it's generally not that expensive that weekend and there are often specials on travelzoo.com closer to the time. The parade starts on the upper west side and heads south on Broadway. It really doesn't matter where you stay unless you're expecting to be able to see the parade from your room (which will be quite pricey).

The Ameritania is very very basic. The Novotel I think usually has special T'giving pkgs. The Renaissance hotel usually has T'giving packages too that include breakfast in their restaurant which does have a good view of the parade route. Here are some other packages.

The Courtyard Midtown East which is not on the parade route but well located has a room with 2 queen beds and a sofabed for $329/night plus tax.

Hi Maggi,

I know that World Wide Country Tours has a Macy's Thanksgiving Parade package that includes downtown accommodations and a great place to view the parade. My friends went on this tour last year and had GREAT things to say about it, and they put you up in the Sheraton...not bad! There's more information on their website here: http://www.countrytours.com/Tours_US...MCode=&OrgURL=. Hope that helps!

Actually, you do NOT want to be directly on the parade route. Being right on Broadway will limit your access to your hotel, force you to walk through many layers of people for over 12 hours just to get anywhere, and cost significantly more. Better is to be a few blocks off the parade route and just walk over to Broadway. I think mclaurie has hit the nail on the head with the Courtyard Midtown East (on 3rd Ave, about 15 to 20 minutes walk from the parade route).

Since you won't be able to see the parade from your hotel room (unless you pay much more than $500 per night), why would you put yourself through the hassle of being right on Broadway in the densest crowd of the entire year when you could be a short walk or subway ride away.

I'd actually recommend trying the Embassy Suites in the Financial District for that weekend. It's far from the parade route but just 20 minutes by subway. And you can avoid most of the crowds that way, making for a much more pleasant trip (and a short walk over to the Statue of Liberty ferry if you want to do that).

I have to disagree with this. We were in New York last Thanksgiving, and despite having reservations, kept a lookout for "discounts" until the day we left home. We were there from Tuesday through Sunday, and not only were the hotels super-expensive ($400 a night for a decidedly mid-range hotel), but the price went UP starting on Wednesday and through the weekend (i.e. we paid more Wed-Sun than for Tuesday night). I think nytraveler is right about this one.
