Has anyone booked through this service which offers discount hotel rates?

I have used them two or three times. Best advice I can offer is always check with the hotel directly and through their toll free reservations line to see if the rate is comparable or better than HRN. Reason being, the cancellation policies are usually much better, with no fee charged.

It's the first time I have ever booked through a company on the net and wanted to make sure they were on the up and up. Thanks for answering and I will check.

I've used them before also and haven't had a problem. If you book through them, they will charge your credit card in advance for the price of your stay. When you arrive at the hotel, they will know that you are pre-paid and will generally only ask for a credit card for incidentals. I mainly use this service when the hotels that I'm interested in are fully booked. Because HRN buys blocks of rooms in advance, they may still have rooms available even when the hotel tells you that their are no rooms available.

As mentioned above though, be sure that your plans are firm before booking because you will get hit with a $50 fee if you cancel.

I have used them without problem. I much prefer Quickbook.com though as prices are usually lower, you don't pay in advance (but at the end of the stay as with a normal reservation), there is no cancellation fee if you cancel 24 hours prior to your stay and you get hotel chain affinity points as you would with a normal reservation directly with the hotel.

I found HRN about the most expensive of the dozens of reservation sites offering booking over the net... and also, of the ones I used, ONLY this company demanded full-payment from your credit card up-front. And, finally, for many destinations they didn't have as many listings as some of the others, despite their claim to be the largest. My advice is to shop around... there are scores of similar sites, and you will have fun comparing their offerings and rates. (P.S. On the plus side for HRN, they did land us a great room at a great rate at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and most of the other sites didn't have the listing. But I still prefer the idea of paying when you arrive, as sites like www.budgethotels.com offer.)

I've used it many times for Boston, New York City, etc. It's also a good resource for checking out hotels. The information here is comprehensive and pretty much accurate. Before booking, I shop other resources to compare rates. Typically, each booking is a whole new endeavor and the rates are all over the place for each of the various hotels available. Note also that the rates DO fluctuate with this service. I book only when I'm certain we're going. Otherwise, it's more prudent to pay a little more (even for the same hotel) through a resource where you are not required to prepay and has a liberal cancellation policy.
