Hotel recommendations prior to a cruise

Looking for recommendations for a good quality hotel for one night before a cruise leaving from the port of Miami. Also wondering how far the terminal is from the airport and if we should just stay somewhere close-by after our flight arrives. Appreciate any comments and suggestions.

Intercontinental is very nice 1 1/2 miles away.

mary1007,

Thank you for the recommendation. Regarding the Intercontinental, is this the one on Biscayne Bay or are you referring to the one close to the airport? I can see that it would be very convenient to be close to the cruise terminal on the day of departure. Thanks.

The Holiday Inn at Bayside Marketplace is very popular with cruisers.

Cheap cab ride to the port and you can see the ships in port.

The one on Biscayne Bay, it is right down the street from the port. Although, you might not be able to walk with your luggage and all. You can also walk to Bayside Market to pass the time.

PS: Don't fall overboard.

Thanks Mary, I'll try and stay dry....ha! ha!
I think we will go ahead and make a resv. for the Intercontinental and possibly fly in a couple of days earlier. This is for a panama canal cruise in Jan.'08 and you never know what the weather will be like in other parts during those winter months, so this way even if we are delayed we will have an added day to reach our destination.

If you are going to fly in a couple of days early, DON'T stay downtown.

Stay out on one of the beaches or stay in Coconut Grove. Much nicer areas and a lot to do.

Downtown is good for a short overnight stay and that is about it.
