lodging prior to cruise

taking a 10 day cruise from San Diego to Mex Riviera. Any suggestions for a not too expensive hotel/motel prior to cruise (1 day before and 1 day after)? we are coming in from Newark.

Check out Holiday Inn On the Bay (Not to be confused with Holiday Inn Bayside). It's right down the street from the cruise terminal -- walking distance, carrying your luggage.

Holiday Inn Bayside is closer to the airport, and you'll have to take a taxi.

Depending upon what you are looking for and how much you are willing to pay, there's an Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, or Residence Inn all nearby, but not walking distance with luggage.

I agree with Budman, another vote for Holiday Inn On the Bay. Make sure you request a Marina view.

Check out which hotels the cruise line uses for pre-cruise or post-cruise hotel stays. They inspect the hotels for quality and are usually a good choice. The cruise lines usually have several hotels for different budgets. You can ask your travel agent or contact the hotel directly to get the best available rates; you don't need to book a pre-cruise hotel package with the cruise line.

Best Regards,
Julia

We were abke to stay at Holiday Inn on the Bay, saw the ship in port while we ate breakfast. We were able to leave our car in their parking lot, no charge. The hotel van took us over to the port terminal about 11:30a.m. and we weren't sure we could board the ship, but, luckily, we got right on, although we could not go into our staterooms till about 2p.m.......we sat around the Lido deck, explored and ate lunch. It was a wonderful cruise.

Holiday Inn on the Bay charges for parking. I would double check prior to leaving it for the entire cruise.

We certainly assumed there would be a charge for parking, there was not, maybe we caught them on a good day....two cars, no charge.
