Hotel recommendations for Wash, DC, not far from I 95
Heading to Florida next week, yes the snowbird thing, and thinking of pulling off 95 and staying near DC a couple of nights, going to the Smithsonian. Looking for a hotel not far from 95, with a nearby metro stop. Thanks....

Take a look at this map from the Metro website: http://www.wmata.com/rail/maps/map.cfm
It will show you where the Metro stops are in relation to the roads. The Franconia Metro stop is the closest to I-95 and there are a few other stops near I-495 which may or may not suit your purposes.

I live near Franconia metro stop. Lots of hotels nearby that stop. Search in Springfield, VA for Holiday Inn Express, (new) Residence Inn, Towneplace Suites, , Courtyard, Best Western, Hilton, Hampton Inn. All are close to the metro and most have shuttles to the metro station.

I stayed at Comfort Inn Springfield (Franconia) and agree with emd3 on that area, plus assuming u plan to leave your hotel in the morning, you'll be going the opposite direction of most of the morning traffic by staying south of DC. You have a number of nearby restaurants and a shopping mall as well. On the downside is that your commute into DC will be almost 1/2 hour, but since you board at the beginning of the Blue line, you find empty seats.
The Comfort Inn Van Dorn (near vanDorn Metro stop) is pretty easy on/off too.
