After reading the rave reviews of the Inn on the tripadvisor site I made a reservation for the end of July. I'll report back after our stay; we decided to drive down, since parking at the Inn is only a big $7."
Great. Glad you found a place to suit you. Have a great trip.

So: now that I've changed our booking to accommodate our pet sitter's calendar, we'll be in the City on my birthday. That means a special dinner, and I'd love some recommendations. We especially like French food (mussels are high on the list), and I'm partial to a great hamburger. Ideas? A restaurant with parking in reasonable proximity would be dandy.

La Folie certainly has an interesting and beautiful menu. Anything with a Michelin star is certainly worth trying, and I think we'll do just that. Plouf! one night, La Folie the next.
What's parking like near La Folie?

$7.00 to park at a hotel is a HUGE deal. You can pay that for 20 minutes downtown! Most places charge $40-50 to park which is why I like the Parc 55 when they have parking included in their rates which are fairly reasonable for SF. Will check into the Inn at the Presidio the next time we play tourist in SF.

We really enjoyed our overnight at the Inn at the Presidio except for one little problem: the mattress on our bed was so hard that we didn't sleep much. Otherwise, everything was great--very clean set of 2 rooms (living room and bedroom, both large) plus a big, nice bathroom. The LR led onto a long veranda, complete with rocking chairs and a good view out to the bay. Breakfast was terrific: croissants, other pastries, hot cereal, cold cereal, juices, fresh fruit, cold meats, eggs, bread to toast, and more. A big amenity is the car service, which for $20 each way took us down to Plouf for dinner--in a Mercedes, no less. We'd go back in a heartbeat if it weren't for the mattress problem.

Underhill - Looking for a great hamburger? Sam's deck in Tiburon - burger on sourdough! Don't miss the Ramos Fizz drink -- a tradition and one which we have brought back and shared. Let me know if you do this and enjoy as much as we do.
