Hotel near Legends Field
Can anyone recommend a hotel close to Legends Field. My son (14) & husband are going down for a boy's weekend to see the Yank's. Doesn't have to be fancy , just clean & not to far from the field. Thanks. (a pool would be nice)

Steinbrenner owns a Radisson (I think) located on the Bay just off the Courtney Cambell Causeway. Staff wear NY caps or shirts. Stud players do not staye there, but some newbies may. Ask for a Bayview room. If you get first floor, you can open the sliding door and be 50 feet from the water. Has a bar/restaurant with Yankee memorablia )Jackson, Hunter, Mattingly jerseys, etc.) Motel is probably less than five miles from the field.
There is also a Doubletree Suites that is just off the Interstate and maybe 2 miles from the Field.
Tell your kid that the Yankees take batting practice at a small field (like a high school field) beside the stadium. Hard to get autographs, but matchless for photos and proximity to players. Go early.

The Tahitian Inn is a local favorite. Their rooms are often a tad cheaper than everybody elses. They recently renovated and now have a more modern front and terrific restaurant. Good pool and nicely landscaped grounds. In the vicinity is also the airport La Quinta (not quite as nice but clean), Embassy Suites, Quorom Hotel, Wyndham. I would choose any one of these.

Not sure how much money your husband will save, but you might be able to find a cheaper hotel just across the bay, near the St. Peterburg/Clearwater airport.
If you take 275 South, one of the first exits after leaving the bridge is Ulmerton Road. There are several budget type hotels like the Hampton Inn and the La Quinta on Ulmerton. It's about a 25 to 30 minute drive from there to Legends Field.
There are also a few Marriott Residence Inn type hotels just a bit further west on Ulmerton. I've stayed in that area a few times for business and its fine. If your husdand and son are fine with fast food and Denny's type places for breakfast, Ulmerton has several.
BTW, I stayed at the Hampton Inn on Ulmerton a few years ago when I went down for some spring training games and it was fine. They do have a pool, not sure if it is heated.

Coney Island Hot Dog is the name of the place.
There is a place on Dale Mabry south of the stadium called Mama's Kitchen. You just might see one of the Yankees there. Open only for breakfast and lunch, very casual, American food, diner-type place.
