Hotel Mela, NYC

Has anyone ever stayed at this hotel? I have narrowed my search down to either Hotel Mela on W 44th ST ($863 total for 4 nights) or The Wyndham Garden Hotel Times Square South on W 36th ST (Same price). It is the best price I have found after searching for about 10 hours total. I found a great deal through Travelzoo.com. My sister just came back from NYC and stayed at the Wyndham and said she had no compaints, all she said was that the room was small but great location if you wanted to be near Time Square (which we do). Is either hotel in a better area? I looked at a map and they seem to be fairly the same distance from Time Square.

I just got 4 nights for $144 [plus $18 "resort fee"] at the Roger Williams Hotel thru perfectescapes.com. It is not in near Times Square, but the hotel looks great and the price is excellent. This is for end of July/early Aug.

I have seen Mela on that site as well.

Hotel Mela.

I vote for it because of the location but just looked at the reviews and they look great. The Hotel Mela is closer to TS than the Wyndham. Enjoy your trip!

Yes, I think I have made my final choice. Hotel Mela.. lots of great reviews and 1/2 block from TS which is what I am looking for. I was told to request a room with a view, or else I will get a room with a brick wall view (only downfall). Thanks for the perfectescapes link, I will definetely use that it my later travels!

The Mela is fine and well located but be aware that the rooms are small even by NYC standards.

My husband and I are arriving this Saturday and will be staying at Hotel Mela for 7 nights. Like you, I spent literally days searching hotels in midtown. The best rate I found was on the hotel's website itself. I booked 5 months prior to arrival and received extra discount for a longer stay. We upgraded to an executive room which I believe to be a little larger than a standard.

I will post a review after we get back from our trip.

It's the first place I'd want to stay as a tourist in the city for only 4 days.

Megan,

Just to update you. My husband and I are at Hotel Mela now. I reserved our room months ago and got a rate of $161 per night for a king executive room (300 sf). I booked it thru the hotel's website which was cheaper than the booking sites.

We have been pleased with Hotel Mela. I wouldn't want a smaller room, but the executive room is fine. The bathrooms are small. Ours has no bathtub, but the shower is large. They use H2O bath products, which are great.

Our only issue is you have to call front desk for ice, which is down in the basement. But they bring it pretty fast.

I've read complaints of no view, but since we are on a side street, I didn't expect a view. If someone wants a view, they need to stay on a main street, not a side street. It is quiet at night which is more impt to me. I asked for a room away from the elevator.

The front desk people always say hello and goodbye as we come and go and are friendly and helpful. The only negatives for us are the ice and no bathtub. Some rooms have tubs. I didn't know to request one. I would definitely get an executive room for the extra space.

Hope this helps.
