Hotel in Provincetown (PTown)
Hi, I am looking for a nice hotel/motel/B&B in Provincetown. The ideal situation would be a place close to the beach and not too far from town. I'm not sure if this is possible?
How is Land's End Inn? How far is it from a "Nice" beach (open ocean beach, not a boat-filled harbor). How would I get to the beach from Land's End? How would I get to town from Land's End? Do they have taxis in PTown?
Any other suggestions for places to stay in PTown?
Is it better to stay in town and just find a way to get to the beach or should I stay near the beach?

The "open ocean beaches" in Provincetown are Race Point and Herring Cove. You can get to them from town, by bicycle, town trolley, or taxi.
Most accomodations are along or close to Commercial or Bradford streets. These streets run the 3 mile length of town along the "boat-filled harbor beach" to use your words.
Land's End Inn is high on a hill at the west end of town. It might be possible to walk to Herring Cove Beach from here but not Race Point. From Land's End Inn it would be approx. mile and one half to the center of town along Comercial Street.
Land's End inn is very quaint and romantic with awesome views all-around. But if you are looking for a pool, Tv, restaurants and lounges then this is not for you.

Thanks for the info Gene.
I'm not really worried about a pool or a TV in my room.
What would you recommend?
I'd like to spend Saturday and Sunday on the beach and then go out to dinner and some bars on Saturday night. Land's End or should I stay in town?
Also, what's your favorite "nice" restaurant. Something that offers more than seafood (I like seafood but my guest is not crazy about it). Maybe Italian?

Tuna: you may want to consider some Inns closer to the center of town for easy walk to nightlife. There are no accomodations near Race Point or Herring Cove because these are National Seashore beaches.
I'll give you 3 of my favorite "nice" restaurants with varied menus: Napi's, Martin House and Ross's Grill.

Thanks to everyone for their help.
My options for Hotels were limitied because most have 2 or 3 night minimums and I was only there for one night. I ended up staying at the Masthead Cottages for one night. The Masthead was nice.
I went to the Martin House for dinner. Really great meal and atmosphere.
Thanks again!

Pinsripes: there is a ferry from downtown Boston right to the main dock in the middle of P'town. The high speed ferry only takes around 2 hours (round trip ticket is around $60, if memory serves me).
IMO, you don't need a car in P'town. Most of what you will want to see in P'town is along a mile or two stretch along Commercial Street and there is a shuttle bus to Herring Cove and Race Point beaches. Taxis are also available, but you'd have to call for one.

P-Town is really quite tiny. I have never taken a cab there, and I have visited for years. The beach is a hike so most people rent bikes. There are so many quest houses and they change year by year as some get new owners. The best thing is to go on internet sites and look at them. The last thing you will worry about is how close things are. A bike ride through P-town is one of the true pleasures of life.
